I have been working at Bridgeport Hospital full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits being part of Yale New Haven Health. Management is visible and honest.

Mr. Jennings sends out emails to everyone on holidays, and when there are critical matters at hand. This is a nice touch, and much appreciated. It's not always good news, but it's honest.

    Cons

None I can tell you that are a big deal.

Promotions are hard because so few people ever leave. In some places this could be a drawback, but I get why they stay. Several key leaders left for a while, and then came back. But I guess that's a compliment in the end.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work.

It sure would be nice to see the senior leaders a little more often on nights and weekends. I know it's a lot to ask, since they work weekday days. But it is a 24 7 place. Quarterly would be fine.

Have a night town hall meting next time.

I have been working at Bridgeport Hospital (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Bridgeport Hospital is a great place to work. It has transformed itself over the last few years. Facilities are upgraded, patient safety and quality is strong, employee, patient and physician satisfaction is high, school of nursing is becoming a four year bachelors program, management is accessible and really cares. Bill Jennings is a great CEO. He listens and cares, and is visible to the staff. The hospital is strong financially. As part of Yale New Haven Health System, it is a great place to work.

    Cons

Health care is a very complex field. Many changes and new regulations all the time. Constant change is the new normal. But it is also fulfilling because we save people's lives.

I have been working at Bridgeport Hospital full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It feels like, and is, a family atmosphere. Caring and compassionate staff and management alike. There are hospital values discussed and posted all around. Management really lives the values. It is refreshing and honest -- even when there is some bad news to deliver -- you can trust.

    Cons

The upcoming change to PTO is new and different, so there is some fear of the unknown for those who have had vacation/sick time for many years. The HR team has done a very good job communicating the coming changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bill Jennings, come on out to nights more often. I know our CEO must work day shifts primarily, but he is such a cool cat, we'd like to see him at night more. Keep investing in the stuff like the new plaza. Don't listen to those who say it is a waste of money. Just look at it! It has changed everything. Lets do some more.

I have been working at Bridgeport Hospital full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

For a large hospital it has a very family friendly feel. Staff care about each other. The quality of the employees is terrific. There have been a lot of changes recently, but they have made it an even better place to work. The vibe is very positive right now.

    Cons

It's a hard time for hospitals with health insurance reform and cuts in Medicare and Medicaid and that has made it harder to work in all hospitals.

I worked at Bridgeport Hospital full-time

    Pros

Benefits were pretty good and the salary was ok. Fair amount of vacation time given to employees. They have parking but you have to pay for it.

    Cons

No team work. Bullying tolerated. Employees are not trained appropriately and do not know the policies and procedures of the hospital. Little accountability in management. MDs and residents can be fairly nasty towards hospital employees at times- this is well known among the management and allowed to continue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put your money where your mouth is. Being an "employer of choice" isn't just talking the talk- you also need to walk the walk.
