    Pros

Great owners who really care about their company and each employee.

    Cons

A very fast paced environment. Needed training at times.

    Advice to Management

    Training program.

  2. Family owned and operated - preferential treatment - no real talent

    Pros

    - They have a chef but the chef has to prepare meals based on approved items from management
    - Flexible schedule
    - Most of the people are nice and easy to work with
    - CEO has a huge heart and cares about people.

    Cons

    - Family owned and operated. More than half of the executive team is related to the CEO.
    - Preferential treatment for certain employees.
    - People are promoted to manager positions without experience or knowledge. Not sure if this is based on loyalty or what but you end up with people running things with no real clue what they're doing.
    - Salaries are low, bonuses are few and far between.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in your people. Get some real talent on your management team. Stop promoting family members or employees that have been there 10+ years.

    Pros

This company pretty much owns its market segment—software for legal departments. It's on great footing financially. You can talk to anyone, including the CEO and president almost every day—and they know you by name.

They DO NOT have a habit of frequent and interminable meetings. I was in meetings that lasted five minutes—if that was as long as it took to settle a question.

Work ends at about 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The few times I worked later, to finish something on schedule, I was maybe the second or third person left in the office. No one jerks your chain on weekends or holidays.

The office on 610 in Bellaire is comfortable and well equipped. Every employee has a laptop that is no more than a couple of years old. It's an open-office arrangement, but quiet

They have free lunch served in the office Monday through Thursday.

They have covered parking (though the birds dirty your car).

On the whole it's a great place to work, if you are in the right job and get along with your manager.

    Cons

Because it is a relatively small company, you might be the only person with your job function, or one of two. You might have to take over duties for others. It's not like a huge corporation where you can hide in the crowd.

More to the point, if you aren't satisfied with your position or don't get along with your manager, there may be no room for a lateral transfer.

The customer support department is well staffed and seems to have some of the happiest people with the longest tenure.

    Advice to Management

I can't complain. I never before had lunch with the CEO or president without it being some kind of contrived event.

    Pros

    Pros:

Employee focused culture - Management goes above and beyond to see employees succeed and to make sure they are taken care of.

Work-life balance - Management and all employees recognize that there needs to be a sense of work-life balance and make sure to expect each other's time.

Training - Management is always looking for ways to invest and better train their employees.

Other - Catered lunch, medical and dental benefits, health programs

    Cons

At times there is slow interdepartmental communication. But other than that, can't think of anything that would stop me from recommending the company.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing exactly what you are doing! It is a testament that you are doing something right when most employees have been with the company, 5, 8, 10+ years!

    Pros

Family oriented, privately owned, career growth opportunities, employee focused culture, innovative leadership (CEO),

    Cons

Slow to change direction to keep up with market pace, roadmap development often delayed, products kept in production too long, salaries well below industry average, no departmental alignment with other departments, corporate strategies and/or corporate initiatives. No formal training or orientation in place.

    Advice to Management

Keep development schedule on target and moving with the pace of the industry and advancement of supporting technology and software applications. Bridgeway has consistently been years behind the supporting technology and software applications and subsequently the faster moving competition. Corporate strategies are a necessity, however decide on one that is viable, proven and effective. Blue Ocean and LDO are the latest of two corporate strategies that have and will require significant investment with seemingly little to no return. The company suffers significant losses and market share by aggressively adopting strategies that are unproven and unsuccessful. My advice would be to thoroughly test strategies in the open market before fully investing resources and dollars.

  7. A good place to learn new technology and work a lot of hours, but not to advance your career and have your ideas heard.

    Pros

Some of the nicest people I have ever worked with.
    Recently renovated office.
    Very interesting work.
    Plenty of opportunities to learn.

    Cons

Decent pay, however it is arbitrary. You could easily be making much less than peers with less experience.
Not staffed to handle the work load.
Pay raises and bonuses (non-existent) are few and far between, even for top performers.
Owners and President of company are not in touch with reality.
    No chance for advancement.
There is no real plan for turning the business around. They think the next product release will resolve everything.

    Advice to Management

You hire experts to write your code, do the work, and manage your departments, so you should actually listen to them when they present new ideas and request resources.

    Pros

Wonderful working environment; excellent cooperation between mgmt and employees. Mgmt is supportive of innovation and new markets. Would love to work there again!

    Cons

Location could be an issue during rainy / bad weather.

    Advice to Management

Relocate to area of less traffic congestion. Continue to support the mgmt and employee relationship with open communication; listen to the employees [not just marketing group] for new ideas and markets.
