Pros
Flexible hours
Designed to learn on the job
Good culture, fun environment
Easy to communicate with coworkers for technical advice
Balance between school and work
Cons
Deadlines are hard to meet, often stressful
Due to the structure of management, changes to projects are frequent and unpredictable
Advice to Senior Management
This is inherently part of the organization of CTL, and so it is unlikely to change, but the feature list for projects needs to be decided a little earlier. I felt that deadlines were most often missed because we were still adding features or changing them up until the deadline itself. There's got to be a cutoff point.
Pros
This institution will instruct individuals how to achieve and succeed. I have enjoyed the opportunities to become acquainted with great individuals.
Cons
I feel that the institution and its constituents are sometimes insulated from the "real world" around us.
Pros
If you're a student it works well with classes.
Cons
They dont pay you very much.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up with the good work.
Pros
Provo living expenses are cheep, nice location, community feeling among students
Cons
It is Primarily an undergraduate university
Pros
Very flexible schedule
Great coworkers
Laid back atmosphere
Great values
Thorough training
Cons
Low salary
Lack of progress
Lack of experience-building opportunities
Pros
I enjoyed the flexible schedule, at least if school classes were a reason to miss work. I had a lot of free reign on when and how I did my work
Cons
Some projects where very stressful and kept me more busy than I had intended.
Pros
Make own hours
Better pay than other on campus jobs
Gain teaching experience
Finding students is relatively easy
Cons
Students can cancel on you.
Pros
BYU is an excellent place for part-time work while attending school. The schedules are generally flexible around your classes, and the types of work are as different as dance is from engineering.
Cons
The pay for student employees is low compared with other places I've worked. Granted, a part time student job to earn book and tuition money can't be expected to pay top dollar; however, there are places nearby with much higher starting wages.
Advice to Senior Management
You get what you pay for, especially in low-level management. To attract the "best and brightest" in managers, especially for auxiliary services, grounds crews, and custodial crews, you ought to pay better. Right now, about half of the managers I've worked for have been decent, while the other half have been downright horrible. Please spend the time necessary to "weed out" the bad managers either by helping them improve their employee relations or by dismissing them.
Pros
Opportunity to help other students and meet a lot of people. Couldn't ask for a better part time job during college.
Cons
The knowledge that we will lose our campus jobs as soon as we graduate. Although it is true that we need to move on, it's still kind of a bummer.
Advice to Senior Management
Always be clear as to what you expect from us. Our job is to follow your policies, so we need to be informed.
Pros
The work environment is great and everyone is very helpful and friendly. Benefit package offered to employees is one of the best in the state.
Cons
Salaries are not the highest; they are average or below average. Also, the recreation center facilities need some urgent remodeling.
