I have been working at Brightcove full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * Dynamic space, interesting customers and technology
    * Great people, great work environment
    * After a period where innovation slowed down due to "engineering debt" pace has really picked up and a lot of cool new product is shipping or about to ship.
    * Culture: Passionate, fun, high energy

    Cons

    * Not really a con, but competitive market and ambitious company means expectations are high and you have to want to work hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mostly doing a good job; Keep it up.

    Exciting changes for software developers

I have been working at Brightcove full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There's a lot of exciting projects happening in development which makes for an interesting time. The move away from a monolithic codebase to smaller, bite-sized projects that are fully managed by one team has been a very healthy move.

The people who work here are smart and fun to work with. There's plenty of opportunities to spend time with others through Tech Wed, Friday show and tell with beers, Hack Week, etc.

    Cons

Brightcove is getting a little old, in software years. With any older company, you start to get legacy pains. If you have to work on these legacy pieces, it's painful. The systems department is in the process of rebuilding, and that's painful too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on developers, inside the company and out. That's what the best software companies do and Brightcove needs to do even more of.

I worked at Brightcove full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Relaxed atmosphere, lower/middle-level employees were great to work with
-Beautiful office, great location, lots of internal perks and great parties

    Cons

    -Compensation packages were completely unfair
-No room for growth in sales and marketing
-Management never connected with the "front lines" of Brightcove to really understand what was going on in the market
-Make changes to process, products, and offerings so often that you can never plant your feet and grow
-Lots of favoritism in upper management
-Very top focused and less focused on the impact major changes make on its employees as a whole

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Talk to all of your employees before making drastic decisions. The people speaking with prospects and customers will have much more insight into the appropriate direction of the company and will help to make more informed decisions

I have been working at Brightcove full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Great culture: awesome, young staff with enthusiasm for the company. Lots of perks like free food/snacks, beverages, and parties to celebrate various events
    - Good work/life balance: Unlimited vacation, flexible hours

    Cons

    - Disorganized
    - Don't invest in their employees the right way, a little too laid back about certain aspects of the job
    - No clear vision about what they want, and how to get there
    - Not a lot of guidance for junior employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in the growth of your people, provide clear guidelines, and stop acting like a start up.

Great place to work for software engineers

I have been working at Brightcove full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Learning: Online video has been evolving rapidly in the last few years, working at Brightcove gives software developers to get the chance the work on new technologies as the the business evolves. The projects are interesting and you are always learning something new.

Career development: The company has experienced a tremendous growth and with that there are plenty of opportunities for developers to take the lead or propose ideas and run with them. If you are comfortable being in the spot and running with projects that put you out of your comfort zone, this is a great place.

Great perks: Software development is an art, the Boston office offers a great environment for collaboration but also plenty of room for you to work on your own, go for a walk while you think about a problem or simply grab a coffee or snack on the massive kitchen where you can socialize with other peers.

    Cons

Dealing with rapid change: this is a business that continues to move rapidly. So you might end up working on high risk/high reward projects that will come with their fair share of ambiguity. Even though there are really smart people working here and the support network is great, if you don't feel comfortable dealing with ambiguity or rapid change, you might end up feeling lost at times.
Opportunities won't be handed to you by management: You need to have a good radar on the opportunities that might be arising, and then prepare. This is a place where preparation meets opportunity all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep sharing even more what the company is thinking about next, so engineers can participate even more on defining the future of the company. There also should be more activities like the hackaton throughout the year (vs once a year)

I worked at Brightcove full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

HR team is top notch. Surrounded by smart people who work hard. Learned a lot there. Clients push hard and motivate everyone for success. Benefits package was not over the top but was fair and competitive.

    Cons

Clients had super high expectations which were sometimes not very realistic. Not always a consistent message coming out of leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Generally things were great. Keep up the culture and high expectations.
