Working in the catering department for 5 years I was respected by my co-workers and upper management.

I worked at Bristol Farms full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

After switching companies from Safeway, I started from the bottom in the deli in 2007 at Bristol Farms in Mission Viejo, determined to go forward. Catering Manager was on my mind and, 6 months later, accomplished that goal. Closure of that store sent me to Newport Beach where I became a co-catering manager. Large store-humongous catering orders!

Bristol Farms is one of the most happiest places I have worked during my adult life. They are always willing to teach you, to make you the best that you can be for the company. I was happy driving to work just because of the ethics of the others who I worked with.

    Cons

Company values are so political. Working your way up - they cab take it away with a pay cut and demote you to part time on paper. I continued to work 40-60 hours/week. Politics and money!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't disrespect the good people who work hard for you to support their families. Think about that when you're having your special events in your big fancy houses.

I worked at Bristol Farms full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The food quality is second to none. Their meat and seafood will make every dining out experience seem like a waste of money if you know how to cook.

    Cons

Very nepotistic when promoting and moving "up" the ladder is concerned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within. Don't hire people from off the street to take jobs that employees who have paid their dues to earn should obtain.

I have been working at Bristol Farms full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The store locations are conveniently located, and it's very easy for me to get to work. There are certain managers that are very easy to talk to, just for daily support.

    Cons

I feel like everything is based on favoritism. I can't have a life based on my pay. I have a lot of experience, and should have been offered more to start. The upper management seems to have forgotten what it's like to work on the sales floor. They expect loyalty from the employees, but don't do the same for us.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, and realize that we are people just like the customers we serve. Everyone is just trying to make a living.

I worked at Bristol Farms full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The environment is friendly and great. Most employees are easy going and fun. Mostly the ones that have been in a company for a while and really enjoy their job. There are some youngsters that don't care about the job so that can be a bit stressful. Now that has become a private company again, benefits are getting better but they are not as god as couple of years ago.

    Cons

There is a lot favoritism. In order to save money, they have been hiring people from outside the company instead of promoting people from within. There a lot of people that have invested their time in the company and there are just taken for granted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote the people that are really committed to the company and have invested a lot of time in it.

I worked at Bristol Farms full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to advance your skills in a customer service career.
Great regular clientele if your up for a challenge in working with persnickety yet decent people.
For the most part, great coworkers that are fun to be around and work with.

    Cons

Low raises unless you get promoted to a higher position.
Really high maintenance clientele. Some of them are nice. Most are not.
Most workers are not full time to avoid paying benefits.

I have been working at Bristol Farms

    Pros

higher clientelle nice uniforms knowledgable staff lower manager better than head manager fresh food but overpriced some mean customers too long on feet

    Cons

too long on feet- need more time to relax needs more employees should be able to stop and rest while cameras are watching

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

clue in to who would be a good manager-treat everyone nice unless they steal or are mean to customers. Give $20 (not spendable at store) for a job well done.
