Current Employee – been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb
Pros – Ability to learn and grow, emphasis on scientific learning and encouraging knowledge sharing. Management emphasizes research and publication as key to growth and development.
Cons – Being a large institution the process sometimes gets to bureaucratic. Decisions are not always based on sound scientific judgement. Sometimes, it feels like a dog eat dog world.
Advice to Senior Management – Evaluate the process of outsourcing and the actual cost to the company, and don't just go by the estimate of the person who is doing the outsourcing as they will always not account for the other costs and have a vested interest in showing that outsourcing works. IT might work in some cases, but in many others, we are compromising on the integrity on the data and also frustrate the scientist who overseas such outsourced projects.

Former Employee – worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb
Pros – Work atmosphere, people are very friendly, opportunities for career growth are ample. Opportunities to develop your skills among various business units.
Cons – Communication between different business units is difficult and strained. Each unit acts as a separate company, so working across different business units could be a challenge.
Advice to Senior Management – Should try to ensure that business units work towards the overall benefit of the company and not just the concerned department.

Cons – Little opportunity to cross-train, unless you completely switch departments.
Advice to Senior Management – Remember your company would not be where it is without the people who work for it.

Current Employee – been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb
Pros – Friendly coworkers who are glad to offer their expertise when I ask. About 5 medications in phase 3 clinical trials make the company well positioned for good cash generation in the near future. The company is moving to a biopharma model to ensure sustained growth.
Cons – Long walk to the parking lot for many employees. The company is streamlining to be more agile and has had several rounds of restructuring and layoffs in the past 3 years.
Advice to Senior Management – I believe that Lamberto Andreotti and his executives are a good team and they are guiding the company towards solid performance.

Former Employee – worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb
Pros – My experience at BMS was very positive. The employees are all really friendly. They encourage a collaborative atmosphere. They want you to learn.
Cons – The work may be a little dry, but that of course is depending on which field you are in. I was in IT so obviously it won't always be fun.

Current Employee – been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb
Pros – Good people, good products, low stress environement, good work/life balance, current strategy makes sense
Cons – BUREAUCY
Slow decision making
Politics are rampant
I
don't believe they are sincere about "developing talent", they talk about it but the promotions and money are don't follow.
Every time there is a re-org upper management gives speaches that you know are direct from the consultants mouths.
My particular division is run with the President acting as a dictator (but don't think that's company wide)
Advice to Senior Management – Get serious about fast tracking some younger talent into management in the technical areas. This company seems to be really old currently. And promote based on talent.... not on politics.

Current Employee – been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb
Pros – Benefits used to be good, not that great anymore with all the cuts. Good work culture, and growth opportunities if you have the right skills.
Cons – Too many layers of management. Company has so many departments with so many high level people, one wonders why someone who does not have an interest in the issue look at it objectively and streamline things.
Advice to Senior Management – not sure why we are putting all our eggs in one basket and selling our other business units and buy more risk.
