I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Location, away from the city. Love the people I work with and the pay is decent.

    Cons

The only REAL con I have is this:

12 Hour Shifts have been forced on us with no overlap between 1st and 2nd shift! EVERYBODY hates the hours but the new management came in with this change in mind and didn't care what the employees thought! The training program is basically non-existent...if you're not a super self-motivated person it can be hard to learn the process and gain opportunities .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees! No one wants 12 hr shifts and you're not getting more work out of us as we're burnt out a lot of times.

I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pays well and support staffs are great to work with.

    Cons

Inconsistency in rules, rolls, training, and responsibilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a more robust and consistent training program. Develop a team oriented approach to problem solving and trouble shooting issues. It may take longer but will insure that the problems are corrected the first time and do not result in causing other problems.

    I worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb

    Pros

    Good benefits and friendly people

    Cons

There are no rewards for working hard. People are promoted based on who they know not what they know. Being seen to work hard is more important to management. The recruitment process is completely unfair and the HR policies are non existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Judge people on their work quality

I have been working at Bristol-Myers Squibb as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Great schedule, awesome work/life balance, occassional work from home days, decent pay for a contractual employee

    Cons

They outsource so many employees. I am a contractor--I work efficiently, I work effectively, I have had multiple full-time employees go to bat for me to get a permanent job and to no avail--it is all about the head count. Very political, too many layers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give permanent jobs to those that deserve it. I would have given the next 20-30 years of my life to have a career here, but the politics didn't allow it. I do not feel valued as an employee at all.

I worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb as an intern (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong portfolio with great value history where a new position may appear at any time. Compensation package very competitive in executive positions.Mission very well defined. Clear focus only on specialty care portfolio.

    Cons

Lack of market focus. Lack of celebrate and recognize great performance. Problems in talent management with high turnover, even in strategic positions. Restructuring excess. Bureaucracy excess leading to slowly decision-making.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lack of delegation to the decision-making process. Important decisions about people taken based on feelings or impressions but not in facts.
