I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

In the past it has been the travel, the work opportunities, great development and training. Good pay and conditions but this does depend on what country you are based in. Dependent on role (and direct line manager) have often been given great responsibility and headroom to make decisions.

    Cons

Heavy cost cutting pressure as there is less and less opportunity to grow the top through the traditional tobacco business...except via price. Massive reduction in International Assignees may result in flow of talent out of the business over next few years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time to stop the over-correction of the pendulum in terms of the travel freeze, training reduction, IA lockdown.

I worked at British American Tobacco as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The general aura of the employee base is relaxed and friendly, with flexible work hours and a supportive network of peers BAT is an enjoyable employer. Work is varied and the continuously developmental nature of the industry means that work is hardly repetitive. The company is globally successful which is reflected in the diversity of the employees.

    Cons

Potential risk of being type-casted for working in the tobacco industry, although from experience all peers that I had were brilliant.

    Pros

A great multinational organization with dynamic and talented workforce. Possesses excellent cross functional team and values employers diversity and rewarding career opportunities. Open door policy to cultivate new and innovative way of doing business.

    Cons

Fast paced environment at times can be stressful. However, if you love and enjoy new challenges and constant ad-hoc changes then definitely BAT would be an ideal place to work for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your work life balance policy is simply amazing and will look forward to have more perks despite the economy crisis.

I worked at British American Tobacco full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very well internally structured with clear responsibilities for each position. Highly professional managers from whom you can learn a lot. The total compensation system is well thought of and balanced. You are a part of a huge multi-national organization so you see your company's brands everywhere you travel ;)

    Cons

Working in tobacco: you are basically participating in a massive conspiracy against humanity. No bright future: both for the company and you. You see that the restrictions are getting tougher everywhere and the company is constantly going through another restructuring. Also, the more you stay in tobacco, the harder it is to get out of there, especially if you are from sales or marketing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lots of politics and bottom-kissing to keep the big bosses happy. The end-market preparation for market visits by some higher-managers is ridiculous.

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good pay and bonus, and a good work life balance. Share scheme is a good perk. Really good people to work with (outside of senior management).

    Cons

Promotion opportunities are rare and when they do happen they're based on political alliances and personal motivations rather than merit. Also, if you're female forget it as you'll rarely get above a certain level.
Senior management rarely communicate anything meaningful beyond company platitudes.
    Constant restructuring and budget cutting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start promoting based on merit, not who scratches your back. and stop the male bias.
Also, allow one restructure to settle and see the results before you start planning the next one.

I have been working at British American Tobacco as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Higher level of HR, company way paying tickets to HQ and night in hotel, amazing organization of the final assessment ( according to the schedule)

    Cons

    8-round process, tough assessment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention on real future leaders not only according to current system of assessment estimation. Sometimes not the right people are chosen for the given role
