I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I have worked here over 7 years, in Globe House. The compensation started very strong but has been whittled away every year. LTIP pay out is close to 0 and annual performance targets are so high that they reduced to below target. Even thought he Management is getting record payouts.

    Cons

There is an atmosphere of fear and greed in this company. Senior and junior staff are concerned about being fired, most people are holding on but are treading water so not to put their heads above the parapet. THe culture has become toxic in the last 3 years - even with share price continuing to increase.
I think the penny has dropped for the Management Board that the industry is in collapse and they haven't developed the skills to fix it.
There is a lack of innovation or truly inspiring brand marketing. The culture is finance driven and loyalty to people is near 0.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retire now . Give way to a generation that can drive the organization towards the current century

    Pros

Big brands, big company, big opportunities potentially.

    Cons

All about brands and $Bucks and shareholders. $crew the people if their faces do not fit!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior managers need a tighter reign on some junior managers who lie and cheat and get away with it, some get caught and are allowed to leave without action....and l hear then go to represent them in legal proceedings which is morally wrong when they lie in court as did HR. Shame on you BAT!

I have been working at British American Tobacco full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It is a great learning environment, some of the best people in the country are working there.. Good international opportunities.. Globally cares for its employees..Transparent culture, access to senior management..Competitive pay and benefits, especially at senior level

    Cons

There is no balance in management either people are too lenient or too tough-the system is highly dependent on the people. One year you can be star (if your manager likes you) the other year with a new manager you can be out of the door. Locally - depending on the country commercial performance- there is less work-life balance..Ever changing strategies, focus and priorities..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider making more investment to systems to stop being too dependent on managers.

I worked at British American Tobacco

    Pros

Excellent pay structure; $52850 starting salary + company car + free gas + company phone/laptop + paid home Internet + competitive benefits.

    Cons

If you are looking for career advancement and progression this is not the place for you. Besides the enticing compensation package you won't get career fulfillment at this company. No form of development, so unless your content with remaining in the same role your entire career it's very difficult to climb up the corporate ladder at Imperial.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for more opportunity for growth. Not everyone wants to do the same job their entire life unlike the old timers already there.
