I worked at British Gas full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Theres always a lot going on, charity events, sports days, people coming round with buns and cakes that sort of thing.
Theres a real family feel to the place

    Cons

Very often you get the feeling that your face has to fit for certain roles, and people are more often not given jobs they do not deserve. The bonus stucture at times was frustrating, on occasions people would kick off and get their own way for a multiplier that they had no real justification to be given

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

One thing that always got on my nerves was the sight of management swanning off early on friday afternoons, to me this sent out the wrong message.

    Pros

    Employee Focussed 100%
Best Companies are ones where customer care starts internally. British Gas is a perfect example of how employees are treated as people and positive customer outcomes drive eco friendly product creation.

    Cons

None really ! Besides, not many options for vegetarians in the canteen :)

Please keep up the good work

I have been working at British Gas full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The atmosphere is great and the staff are pretty much all really easy to talk to and work with. If you have potential and work hard you are rewarded and recognised for your efforts, which is refreshing. Being full time gives you flexibility with work hours/locations and there are plenty of opportunities for business networking. Upper-managerial staff communicate regularly with their staff and pay attention to the requests and concerns of their employees.

    Cons

Open plan offices are horribly noisy, and with teams spread across sites it's awfully hard to get everyone in the same room, or on a quiet teleconference. The food and drink on sale in the staff canteen is massively overpriced and not very good quality. Diversity awareness training is dated and heterosexist, focuses almost entirely on race and physical disability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get DMU in to administer Diversity, Discrimination & Ethics training that actually covers the myriad of things that people should be aware of instead of just a few incorrectly discussed buzzwords. Consider finding a better Information Systems team - the company we use currently is overpriced and ineffective.

I have been working at British Gas full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people are generally very talented.
Facilities are also good, including a gym, cafeteria and coffee shops. Also a shuttle bus from the station is provided.
Generally the sallery offered is competitive.
    Good benefits package.

    Cons

    Hard work not always recognised.
Decisions made at top level are not always filtered down.
    Process's can hinder creativity.
Too many project managers and not enough people doing things.
PDP talked about allot but not always actioned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Personal growth should be talked about more. More room for internal progression.
Simplify process's to get things done quicker.
Consider possible failure as not being a reason not to do something.

    I worked at British Gas

    Pros

Good working conditions. Flexible. Challenging but fun. Company really cares about the staff.

    Cons

Misunderstood and constantly taking a bashing from public and government.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reviewing pricing strategy or improve customer service. Both need addressing. Product areas feel over resourced.
