Excellent atmosphere. All staff and most customers very friendly. Variety of different roles available. 25% staff discount on all secondhand goods. Feels great helping such a good cause.

Can be under a lot of pressure sometimes due to lack of staff. Unrealistic expectations on shop staff from head office.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at British Heart Foundation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A committed and skilled workforce. Quite a pressured environment due to the high workload across all divisions. Good benefits and hours (35 hours per week).

    Cons

A lot of management hierarchy means quite a disconnect between people doing the work and those making the strategic decisions.

    Advice to Management

Adding more managers will not tackle problems caused by lack of people in the enabling functions which are essential to support the good work of the people on the front line.

I worked at British Heart Foundation as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

My role was to help the shop look approachable. This meant arranging the shelves to entice the customers into the shop. The instructions that I received were easy to understand and to execute. It was also a friendly and polite place to be and work.

    Cons

I do no think that there were any challenges or drawbacks of working for the British Heart Foundation. It was an enjoyable experience.

    Advice to Management

I do not think that there is any advice that I can give to the management except to keep up the good work.
