    Pros

friendly, challenging, interesting work, talented people

    Cons

GM of the cellular BB unit should have fixed the issues within his BU

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CTOs cannot get to be appointed as GMs, company should focus on long term objectives rather than short term profit

I worked at Broadcom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company provides a good work life balance and good work environment for it's employees. Employees usually get a lot of freedom to implement their ideas and thoughts. Not too much workplace politics and engineers are usually busy with projects to work on

    Cons

Lacks good top leadership. Some decisions don't make sense like acquiring the LTE assets and then shutting down the unit within 9 months of it's acquisition. Seems like the unit was just bought to jack-up the stock price after it took a plunge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on value generation and don't change leadership very often the mistake made in MPG. Create a clear mission statement that the managers can share with their teams.

    Pros

You can learn anything related to backend design of SOCs. Like, STA, IR analysis, DFT, place&route, synthesis, formal verification, etc.

    Cons

New employees will struggle for quite a long time, as new employees barely get help from experienced engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Schedule a mentor to help new employee.

    Pros

engineering staff is very knowledgeable, access to latest design tools, frequent MPWs

    Cons

Executive management lags vision, just follows the market
Company does not learn from previous mistakes
Company is following top-down management approach, and does not listen to feedback from the engineering community

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend time learning from previous mistakes, don't cut and run from one acquisition to the next

I have been working at Broadcom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This comes from a software engineer's perspective. Good knowledgeable engineers to work with. Good benefits, stock plans. Some interesting software to work on.

    Cons

Can be very fast-paced at times. Interesting work is not shared amongst all engineers within the team. Lack of interesting training for software professional, training more hardware-oriented. The shutdown of cellular division is questionable business decision, but is business after all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Acquire less companies and try to be ahead of other companies instead of catching up i.e. forecast where the industry is going better.

I have been working at Broadcom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I have learned a lot in the cellular division at Broadcom. I -like many others- got the opportunity to go beyond the initial assignments and learn about many system aspects. Internal transfers are easy if not encouraged. Compensation is OK, used to be much better.

    Cons

The cellular business got killed by the Beceem acquisition. The VP at Broadcom was buddy with the CEO of Beceem. After 3 years of going nowhere, Broadcom eventually acquired renesas but CEO decided to pull the plug after 9 months. Way to much politics now and those who screwed up never faced the consequence of their acts.
Titles are very much inflated and meaningless. Those who just get a free ride get the same recognition as those who do the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of people who supported the acquisition of Beceem. Get the HR to do their job: identify the key talent, keep them motivated and retain them!

I have been working at Broadcom as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The company culture is excellent! Although it is does not accept too many people, it still worth working for it as an intern. Skills you can learn from it is much more than you get paid.

    Cons

Good company culture, but not many return offer oppertunities. Best company of video and wifi/BT development group, as a intern you can learn a lot in relevent field.
