I worked at Broadcom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Broadcom is the undisputed leader as the silicon vendor for connectivity, switching and set top box spaces with no real competitor. This makes them a very stable employer. They prefer to hire senior and experienced engineers. That combined with the stability makes it a good place to work until you retire. People are generally very nice to work with. The workload is very manageable and most days you can be out by 5 to spend time with family.

They have a very generous flex time policy, ESPP is excellent and they are very open to remote working arrangements.

    Cons

In my opinion, and despite all the pros, Broadcom is not a good place for anyone below 50 due to these three cons:

Complete lack of recognition (monetary, verbal or titular): You can work day in and out for years on the same thing without any recognition or advancement.

Quality of work: Most "developers" are glorified application engineers being ground up by extremely pushy customers. Expect to be thrown into the deep end without training, management support, or esoteric things like documentation. The interesting work is done by a caste of "architects". The job for the rest is to isolate these chosen few from irate customers.

Very flinty and litigious company: Overall salary is below par. Benefits are very meh. 401k is a joke. They structure pay (using RSUs) in a way that defers paying for work already performed, ties employee up for years and has built in claw-backs. Great for the company. Not that great for employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In my opinion, Broadcom cannot be fixed without gutting and rebuilding the culture (and especially management culture) of the company.

I have been working at Broadcom full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Dynamic work policies. Great technologies to work on. Broadcom always thrives to be on cut-edge technology in semiconductor.
You can openly share your ideas to work on the problems and have ample opportunity to keep learning new stuffs.

    Cons

Work pressure is very high in Broadcom. You may be handling ~ 3 to 4 projects at a time and may need to work on it on same day.
Employee should be given more chance to select their area of interest to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to focus on committing more individuals on specific projects.

    Pros

It is a very good company to learn. All the employees are very friendly. You can reach out to any employee and they will explain you for what ever doubt you ask.

    Cons

I cannot think of any cons. Overall I had a good experience. I felt they can increase the pay for interns. I am not saying it based on my own salary.

    Pros

Benefits are pretty good. Employees are great to work with.

    Cons

No growth, pay is horrible (for non-engineering roles). Titles/promotions given for "who" you support, not for your skill level. Favoritism is obvious. No rewards, freebies, give aways for employees. If you reward your employees, you will find that they will work harder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to your employees more.

    Pros

    good benefits
    strong products, stable company

    Cons

Netlogic group is a disaster. Engineering group decides what product to build and which features to use.
No clear direction from management. Power struggle in the marketing group nobody talks to anyone everything is kept as a secret..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clear up the mismanaged Netlogic group. Improve the culture of communication and sharing there

I have been working at Broadcom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good technology, Good core people in some of the BUs

    Cons

The company seems to have hired managers recently, say 2-3 years ago, who are neither technical nor have any management skills. Lots of politics and influence for which wrong candidates get hired for managerial role.
Not all groups comprise of good people. If you want to get into this company, try to get into the core teams which have excellent technical expertise and management. all other groups be it hardware or software comprise of not so skilled people. Anyways, core technical ppl will definitely not join the support teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to be skilled enough to hire someone fit for the managerial roles...no doubt company had to shut off so many BUs due to lack of good products and lack of competent and skilled technical ppl. Not just enough to throw money on the new hires seeing their resume, need to have the ability to evaluate the candidates in the most effective way else company is going to continually run into loss by giving joining bonus to the new hires and than laying them off after 6months.
