    Pros

The pay is competitive and the benefits are decent, but what makes the company good to work for is its employees. The company is good at hiring many of the most talented people in the industry. Everyone is very capable. It's a pleasure to be surrounded by great peers. There are also plenty of learning opportunities.

    Cons

Time off for new hires can be a problem due to the bi-annual mandatory shutdowns (Xmas and week of July 4th). The shutdowns are needed to give everyone a break. Staffing is continually paper thin and meeting schedules can be very challenging (Brocade is a schedule-driven company). Other than on-the-job training, taking advantage of the learning opportunities can also be a challenge, as there isn't a lot of free time for it. Promotion opportunities appear to be empty promises unless you are in a very visible position.

    Advice to Management

Management is already well aware of the issues and has formulated a plan to address the current concerns. More time off flexibility during the May to August months would be helpful.

    Pros

Benefits and pay. Brocade pays a little above average and the benefits are very good with an additional 40 hours available for volunteer time in the community. There is a gym available onsite. Very good working relationship with development. Brocade hasn't missed a bonus as long as I have been here but that is not a given. there is decent work-life balance.

    Cons

Career dead end. Most people have been here (Broomfield Campus anyway) for many, many years in their respective roles which is a double edged sword in the sense that people are happy here but there is no movement. Managers don't seem to have the time or interest to foster career plans for team members. Other than the bi-annual performance review I have had to initiate all manager one-on-one conversations about career growth.

    Advice to Management

Keep chasing the IP side like the market wants to see, but don't forget Fibre Channel pays the bills.

Pay is very good, vacation days is great, and benefits are very good.

    Cons

Lotsa overtime for all. You have tons of vacation but just can't use it.

    Advice to Management

    Needs better work/life balance

    Pros

Fast paced cutting edge technology company. A dynamic medium sided company able to adapt quickly. Great products and great engineers designing them.

    Cons

Tend to reorganize regularly. Little upward mobility unless you were interested only in people management. Education on the company's own products is nonexistent. Often have to just wing it when testing a device. There's also a brain drain occurring which in my opinion is very dangerous for a technology company.

    Advice to Management

    automate automate automate

    Pros

Great, top-notch people, both personally and professionally. Great culture, environmentally and socially conscious, with good work/life balance. Incredible training opportunities - more than you could ever take advantage of. Top-of-industry compensation: salary, bonus, RSUs, 401k match, and great benefits.

    Cons

Limited potential for career advancement. Middle management can be over-reactive to every comment from CEO, without thoughtful prior analysis.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in VCS Fabric - it's a revolutionary product. Keep investing in Software Defined Networkingf (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), e.g. OpenFlow and Vyatta. And stay focused on the data center. Brocade is already #2 in data center networking, and has a real shot at taking on Cisco.

    Pros

Brocade Communications may offer a variety of good benefits, including pay and insurance, for new and long term employees.

    Cons

Brocade Sr Management are not great. It is like the blind leading the blind at the Sr level, making bad decisions daily.

    Advice to Management

Take more of an interest in your people. To Sr Mgmt, hire Sr Mgmt level people who can actually take the business to the next step

    Pros

There are workout facilities at each site and they offer yoga, kick boxing and additional classes, which helps get a person away from their desk and find time to relieve stress.

    Cons

The work life balance is said to be a big priority but there have been reduction in force that workloads have increased and taking time off is not a reality.

    Advice to Management

Start allowing people to sell back their PTO since they are under too much pressure to get their tasks completed they can't afford to take time off and they end up capping out on PTO.
