I worked at Brocade Communications full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Competitive compensation which included a very good bonus program. Generous PTO system which was adjusted a bit down over time. Large enough company to be stable, yet small enough that you still feel like you can make a real impact there.

    Cons

Groups act in a somewhat silo fashion. Foundry acquisition proved to not pay off as the business had hoped. Can be a bit ruthless of a place to work. It takes a strong willed person to thrive in this environment. Base pay a bit below market, made up somewhat by the generous incentives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more efforts on career coaching and development.

I have been working at Brocade Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Compensation, campus, cafe, SAN Products.
    Nice gym.
    Nice parking structure.

    Cons

New Management has the company on a downward spiral. Cost cutting is gutting the core programs that once made Brocade great. Attrition is high, with another wave to happen this summer after bonuses are paid.
Strategy is vague. New technology is interesting, but lacks real world application today. Marketing is a disaster. Goodbye status quo and goodbye Brocade.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find the next best buyer and sell the SAN business to preserve it. Reduce the size of the SW business unit and focus only on NFV. Forget about Fabrics, you don't have pockets deep enough to compete there.

I worked at Brocade Communications full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Once a great company. If you are looking for a storage job, brocade gives you a great brand. Ex-employees are successful in what they did later in career and you will be looked at the same angle.

    Cons

Senior engineering management is clueless and mostly political. Severe attrition in engineering management is the proof. No one complains while leaving, that just means they are numb after last few months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire new executive engineering team that is people/community oriented. Enough money has been already saved by senseless layoffs and goalless cost cutting. Now let us save the people who are left. Let go the political management and keep the honest ones who really want to keep business as a priority.

I have been working at Brocade Communications full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Have many projects going on for new grads to accumulate their knowledge

    Cons

limited promotion space for entry level engineer because they are more likely to borrow people from acquired company and most are senior level or even higher

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO should have a clean vision on the company's future strategy instead of just encouraging people to think a change

I worked at Brocade Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast paced cutting edge technology company. A dynamic medium sided company able to adapt quickly. Great products and great engineers designing them.

    Cons

Tend to reorganize regularly. Little upward mobility unless you were interested only in people management. Education on the company's own products is nonexistent. Often have to just wing it when testing a device.
There's also a brain drain occurring which in my opinion is very dangerous for a technology company.

I have been working at Brocade Communications full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great People, Great for Work Life Balance

    Cons

New CEO & Management team is recruiting from outside so if your hoping to get promoted into a better role - think again. Company is focused on tactics and no - NFV isn't the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build your focus on the people, stop hiring in executives, get a strategy. Don't let the CEO (flying first class) speak at an all hands about frugality on the purchasing of Lobsters for board meetings while the rest of the employee's suffer
