There are none. Most messed up company I have ever worked for. They don't care about anything but making money.

    Cons

The pay is the worst in the field.
Care about lining there own pockets with money and don't care about there residents.

    Advice to Management

    Care more about your residents

    Pros

For me, the advantage of working here was the drive is only four miles each way, meaning a very fast commute time. Paydays were spot on, and the money would arrive every Friday morning around 1:00 a.m. --- what little I did receive.

    Cons

Not a good place any more. Formerly Emeritus Spring Estates, formerly Sunwest, Brookdale Kenmore is grossly understaffed, the workers underpaid and the company corrupt. They take advantage of associate level employees at every turn due to the non-union working conditions and compensation packages. Most people working here cannot afford their own place and are working two or more jobs just to survive. Average wages are about 2/3 that of union wages, and most caregivers make $11 an hour. Cooks make $12 or so and are usually preparing meal periods alone, and dishwashers are sorely taken advantage of at $10 and have to do the work of three people. This is Brookdale's true philosophy, and that is to maximize profits and minimize labor, meaning the residents are often not receiving the care due them, as the building is being improperly run by a management team afar off in Tennessee that dictates very conservative corporate policy that results in poor resident retention and high employee turnover.

In other words, by taken every penny from the residents and giving as little as possible back so as to appease the stockholders and well-off higher-ups, they are hurting the very people who may have made them profitable in the first place. Take from the poor, and give to the rich: this will be Brookdale's inevitable demise, peppered with well-deserved lawsuits and attorney general investigations along the way.

Not in a million years would I work here or let on of my loved ones move in. ANY Brookdale facility. Their job descriptions start out with, "A career at Brookdale has never been more rewarding!" For the CEO who makes nearly a million $$ a year and an Executive Director who makes $67,000 a year, that might be true. But for the hardworking caregiver or cook or med-tech who is making $15,000 a year, it's a complete and utter deception. I even had to get the state Attorney General involved on a matter, but that's a different story.

    Advice to Management

Rebuild from the ground up. Fire the CEO and cap the CEO's salary at $200,000 per year instead of nearly a million $$$. Require all ED's to know how to cook. Install union benefits, wages and other compensation packages. Remove all menu lockdowns and let the dining managers manage instead of micromanaging every single purchase and telling them what to do. Have a RN on duty 24 hours instead of just during part time Monday through Friday. Let employees have 40 hours a week, and redefine full time as 38 hours per week instead of 30. Give all employees free health insurance and at least $12.00 an hour. If you do this and other things--treating your employees and valuable assets instead of garbage--employee turnover would be at an all-time low, resident retention would be at an all-time high and EVERYBODY would LOVE to come into work instead of dreading it.

    Pros

Working with seniors is amazing. They are the reason you do this type of work.

    Cons

This is an absolutely horrible company to work for! They ask for a lot and the pay is incredibly low! Corporate has no respect for employees, they make it understood that you are replaceable. If you are considering a job with them, look elsewhere, this is not a good company. They don't care about you!

    Pros

They do care about their customers but it's only because it brings them $.

    Cons

In September, the entire Senior Management Team is turning over. What does that say? They cater to Wall Street which is not what should be done if you are in the Senior Living business.

    Advice to Management

Go private. Get off the stock exchange. You were a much better company when you weren't worried about what Wall Street thought.

    Pros

Being able to try and help seniors and their families in this difficult time in their lives.

    Cons

Management does not pay a respectable wage for the very hard work.
FOCUS is on selling apartments. Apartments are ridiculously expensive, avg. $5000.
Management does not follow their own rules, don't lead by example.
The facility is designated as assisted living only, in reality: skilled nursing without the staff.
Nursing staff overworked, continually forgetting to reorder medications.
Communication between staff and management is terrible.
Dining dept. is a continual mess. 4 dining managers in half a year!
Management routinely puts their own work onto employees.
Residents are poorly cared for because of understaffing.

    Advice to Management

Pay employees more, emphasize resident care, deemphasize selling apartments to seniors inappropriate for assisted living.
