I worked at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I loved working with the Residents.
Met some great coworkers and long life friends.
PTO time off is very reasonable.
    The food is half price.
    Pay is very good.

    Cons

Having to go into Apartments that were infested with Bed Bugs.
Having Upper Management not listen or address your concerns.
No Confidentiality in the Office. One Worker would discuss your employee information with others.
Losing two friends in the office, because of one Rude employee that Management refused to address.
Coworkers that wasn't pulling their weight, and made it hard for the rest.
    Health Benefits are very expensive.
The Turnover ratio is way out of control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat all employees with fairness and respect.
Get rid of the employees that bring down the moral, starting with the office.
Reprimand those that are not doing their jobs.
Lock up employee files, with limited access.
Stop worrying about quantity, and give the Residents quality services instead.

Started out hopeful and watched as several incompetent managers destroyed what others had built. Run fast.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good marketing. The residents. Fair pay. Nursing does the best they can but has no leadership. The good nurses usually leave or get fired because they don't blindly follow what they are told. This place had potential but no one seems to be at the helm.

    Cons

Incompetent management at every level. Zero sense of urgency. Obvious lies to customers and staff. No supplies. This is a scarey place. You've been warned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Residents are wonderful to work with.

    Cons

Upper management seems to take advantage of it's people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should focus more on the residents and they're happiness and not the $$$$$

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great opportunity for advance. Company cares about its associates and encourages them to grow within the company.

    Cons

Lower pay than average. Benefits are abundant, but insurance costs are high, especially considering the size of the company. After the acquisition of Emeritus cost of insurance went up, despite the fact that the company grew considerably.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to what is going on at the community level. I have seen some issues with the new Emeritus employees joining our group. Some do not seem to have embraced the Brookdale culture and will say, well at Emeritus we did it this way. More training for the incoming Emeritus associates.

    Pros

The systems they have in place are great and easy to learn. Management is stable and understanding. Online training is ongoing which is nice.

    Cons

There have been a lot of changes over the last few months changes does not mean bad. Change is just different. When you have been in the same position with the same company a long time, it's just tough to get used to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work!
