I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Training, support, development. Great ED and regional team. Opportunity for advancement. Beautiful community with lots of potential. Help from co-workers is never a problem.

    Cons

Commission structure, benefits. Companies try to recruit me all of the time, with offers for higher salaries and much cheaper benefits. It's tempting because the compensation and medical premiums are such a huge issue. But I stay because I am appreciated, supported, and challenged.0

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The regional sales director is fabulous and really understands CCRC sales. What a relief! It is wonderful to get coaching and to feel supportive. The expectations are high, but I get the help I need to hit my sales goals. It's nice having other sister communities nearby, and I look forward to meeting everyone at our meeting today.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people and the culture. The company really lives out it's mission on caring for residents and employees. The culture is supportive and nuturing.

    Cons

For a huge company, benefits could be better, especially healthcare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to take care of your people and they will make sure residents are taken care of.

    Pros

The staff is great and so are the residents

    Cons

The staff are underpaid for what they have to dol

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As much as they charge residents to live there, they should have better pay and/or benefits.

Focus is on making money for stock holders not on growing the staff or providing care to the residents.

    Pros

Large company allows easy transfer opportunities - in all states but 2.
    Good on line training system.
    Nice uniforms.
    Pretty name tags.

    Cons

Little support from Executive or Regional Teams.
    Little focus on resident care.
    Little focus on associate growth.
Lots of focus on growing revenue.
No work/life balance for managers or department heads. High turn over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to the staff that support this company. Conduct Town Hall Meetings to see what the true needs are of each community, associates, residents and families. Allow us all to see and feel that there is more to you that someone sitting behind a computer, crunching numbers.

    Pros

Salary not bad, benefit package choices good. There are many good people with the desire to do well and serve residents.

    Cons

Old Emeritus is now new Brookdale. Culture is no longer the driving force.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stip pushing for a minute, give low level associates time to catch their breath and provide a forum that allows for honest feedback without fear of retribution. Money and the stock market should not be the main focus when taking care of elderly.

    Pros

Caring for Seniors is always rewarding. Trying to sell them services they will never get is sickening

    Cons

Lying and selling services to Seniors knowing that they will never receive the care they deserve and are paying for. The only thing Brookdale cares about is stock share holders profits and their budget. Corporate put out a company wide email last week telling all management to write Glassdoor with positive PR because they are afraid everyone can see the truth on this site and it will affect occupancy and their bottom line. They should have focused instead on actally improving morale by keeping their promises and quit cutting staff hours providing care to the residents!!! Pay care staff more than $10! Get rid of greedy money Grubbing top heavy Directors and VP's who add no value. Why should so many people get rich off the backs of the Elderly and sick?? Instead of paying for slick salespeople and constant training meetings conference calls...pay to provide real care like you promised.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hope one day you are old or sick and have to live in one of your own facilities

    Pros

Residents are great, but staff is horrible

    Cons

Staff and Administration are unorganized and childish. No communication between the two. Pay is ridiculous for a CNA

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so uncompromising to staff. And the rude behavior of management is why they can't keep any staff.
