Positive experience. No company is perfect, however brookdale is far better than their leading competition. I know, because I've been on both sides. Experience speaks volumes.

I have been working at Brookdale Senior Living

    Pros

Brookdale policies are pro resident and supportive of staff. Local mgmt needs to be trained how to communicate with 'Mother' for guidance and direction to do the 'right thing'.

    Cons

Challenges as to availability of floor staff per resident count

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You get what you pay for. Hire quality people with reasonable pay, and quality of service will increase. Also continue to treat staff with respect. They will in turn work diligently and with compassion!

    Pros

Opportunity to connect on many levels. Family connections are and can be rewarding.

    Cons

Disconnect between corporate and boots on the ground management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Building management is overlooked for potential ideas, suggestions, career advancement, etc. get out and meet those teams. Don't forget them on Christmas. They are the ones putting in long hours making sure the residents have a happy holiday!! Just a thought.

Former Employee - Dining Services Associate in Richmond, VA

I worked at Brookdale Senior Living part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Many of the employees and managers throughout the building were great, and genuinely cared about their work.

    Cons

The dining services department had managerial issues and was in dire need of removing a large number of problem employees. The department surveyed as having a less than 50% job satisfaction rate. I saw a waiter threaten an assistant manager with no repercussion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There was little to no accountability for employee behavior. The setup of the dining room made it easy for slacking employees to dump work on others, some of the kitchen staff was exceedingly difficult and unfriendly.

I worked at Brookdale Senior Living full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Having a job, making a difference

    Cons

Mirco managed at every turn. The same leaders who failed Emeritus are now with Brookdale. Actually the worst of the leaders stayed on with Brookdale, the good ones were fired. Horrible, no morale. So happy I left. So much happier in my new job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit, this is not the field for you. You are terrible. Just quit...
