  1. Top Notch School- expectations are high all around

    Pros

Some of the best teaching faculty in the state; supportive environment

    Cons

-School climate is a bit intense; many stressed out parents and kids...the kind of school where AP classes are expected for many students, whether or not the kids are actually capable of the work at that level -When I was there long-term subs did not receive any health benefits which was a pain...sounds like that may be changing though

  2. Wonderful school system to work for and teach in!

I have been working at Brookline Public schools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Brookline continues to have a decent reputation. While the wealth of the district may not increase your salary, the facilities are nice and children are well cared for and have access to important tools as needed.

    Cons

-Several incompetent and underqualified people fill important positions (principals, coordinators, and other supervisors) -Salaries are very low compared to other districts, especially for entry level and paraprofessionals -While upper management claims to support professional development when you start, supervision is poor and investment is low -Snobbery abounds in both staff and parents

    Advice to Management

Provide regular evaluations and performance feedback. Train teachers and other staff in how to effectively manage and support paraprofessionals, as there are so many in the district. Minimize the job creep mentioned by another employee - adding more tasks to a teacher's to-do list throughout the year really impacts kids.

I worked at Brookline Public schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are some excellent teachers at the Pierce School.

    Cons

Class sizes far to large. Children who needed extra support such as individual aids are not given them. The teachers are overburdened. sup

    Advice to Management

    Smaller class sizes.

    Pros

Great place to work. Compensation a bit lower than Boston but probably easier teaching. Parents can be a handful, especially at higher level classes.

    Cons

Pushy parents can be a handful. Compensation a bit lower than Boston. Job creep is large - always adding extra responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

More respect for teachers when it comes to negotiations. The town expects the best and should be willing to pay for quality teachers.
