I worked at Brooks Brothers full-time

    Pros

For a while there were many talented people working there. Salary was competitive.

    Cons

Management and HR disaster. Stores focus on executive visits and fundraising without regard to customer and associate satisfaction. Massive dismissal and downgrade of talent for the field and home office left a performance void. The no-nothing senior management team is disconnected and dilusional.

    Advice to Management

    Sell the company.

    Pros

Good leadership... senior leadership inspires you to do well. The company lives its values throughtout the organization.

    Cons

Schedule and work life balance. Opportunity for growth limited within stores but always have an opportunity for special projects

I worked at Brooks Brothers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The health care is great! Other then this the company had nothing to offer anyone

    Cons

We did have a good brook looks, however, the company took that away. Now with less pay no one can afford the clothes. Upper management is all secrets about where the company is going. They just decreases everyone's pay by 20,000 plus. Depending on market. If you want a job at BB understand it's for no more then 34,000 a year. Good job for high school kids or college kids. No future here for sure!!!

    Advice to Management

Bring back Brooks where is was when you bought it. People talk of dark ages, however, it is dark ages now. You are losing your brand message by losing your loyalty of employees. It's the ones on the bottom, the workers, that build up a company, give it strength, you lose them you might as well sell.

I worked at Brooks Brothers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-Fantastic benefits: great medical, dental, and vision insurance; very generous discount; -Great history and heritage brand -Quality product

    Cons

-Difficult to make sales plans due to lack of correct product assortment -Rude customers with unreasonable expectations -Constant corporate structural changes put everyone on edge as far as the direction the company is heading. Many excellent, tenured employees had their positions eliminated over the last 15 months or so due to these changes. -Lack of communication at times between different corporate partners and store management

    Advice to Management

Spend some time in stores on the actual sales floor in order to accurately gauge what challenges and opportunities your sales teams are facing and what impact that has on sales figures. Value the knowledge and opinions your sales teams have- they are the key to your success, like it or not. Know who your loyal customers are and what they want (ie tailored clothing, not red fleece).

I have been working at Brooks Brothers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the co-workers. The discount, if you like the overpriced merchandise.

    Cons

The 3 managers at this location; the computer system; the sleazy and cutthroat style of selling. A totally unprofessional and disorganized environment (not to mention that most of the sales staff is constantly chewing gum on the sales floor....including the managers!!). And they call this a luxury retail store?!?! Yeah right!

    Advice to Management

Change your attitude. Be more involved and helpful.

    Pros

    Brand heritage and good product.

    Cons

Effective 08/01/15 company is cutting wages for all non-union Sales Associates by up to 66%. Staff told to not say anything because management ddi not want news out on social media.

    Advice to Management

Treat Sales Associates with respect and dignity. Recognize Sales Associates are the face to the customer. Hire the best and pay them as the best.

I have been working at Brooks Brothers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great if you're knowledgeable about the product, care about quality garments, and if you are working for a retail store located in a high traffic area. The potential is great for retail sales up to a point.

    Cons

As with any sales position, there are slow times and busy times. I feel the company is too big and with the constant sales. Huge inventory problems, management at my particular location isn't strong and does not train new associates. If you happen to be a senior associate, you will take on a lot of responsibilities that really should not apply to you. Sales is also 100% commission based, so if you're working for a small volume store I would stay away. My other issue is that the company does not seem to really care to look for talent that are genuinely interested in the industry, thus a high turnover rate. I don't feel that there is much opportunity to move up as well.

    Advice to Management

Train new people better, look for talent that actually care about the business instead of those just looking for a job

I worked at Brooks Brothers part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As a part time job for a High School/College Student, Brooks Brothers was always flexible in scheduling my hours. The other sales associates were always supportive and management was always available to answer any questions.

    Cons

There is no room for significant advancement in a factory store as there are only three roles: sales associate, assistant manager, and manager. Sometimes other sales associates will do the bare minimum as there is no real incentive to sell. Also there are times when the factory store does not have enough merchandise to sell to the customers (lack of sizes or stock).

    Advice to Management

While this does differ from a retail store, adding incentives to make sales would decrease laziness and increase revenue. Moreover, make sure to listen to sales associates merchandise needs, as it will ensure that they will be able to sell items to customers.
