I worked at Brooks Brothers full-time

    Pros

The merchandise is high quality. The markup is ridiculous. Even the snobs refuse to pay full price.

    Cons

The customer experiences are somewhat strained and weird. Some of the sales associates working at Phillips Place in Charlotte, NC are unusually close to and involved with them and their families. This makes Brooks Brothers seem very cultish. All the customers know you are on commission and treat you like their servant. There are never enough inventories in the store to sell to the customer. So you become an order taking who gets items in for the customer. Maybe they like it, maybe they don’t. You just constantly order items in for them. If they buy it, they just return it. The merchandise is of high quality but not everything is a work of art. Stop drinking the kool-aid!
There is no privacy or courtesy given when trying to communicate with colleagues. This is a problem in most retail environments but it is the worst at Phillips Place in Charlotte. There is a lack of respect and boundaries there. It is a Peyton Place where everyone is in everyone’s business. The outward displays moodiness and disrespect are out of control. Not a fun place to work. No laughs together only at each other. It is the most petty and childish place to work. There is a need to be vetted by the golden child who is in good with the big wig, store manager. If they hate you, everyone hates you. Just like high school? The store consists of clicks like in high school. They gossip, lie, and stir up trouble constantly. This store is filled with individuals who could never work anywhere else. Their snobbery and inability to not be part of a “cult” would never allow it. That is why many of them stay. Not because it is a great company. There are a lot of sales associates who come and go as they please while others are required to stay their entire shifts. There are individuals working there that are unbearable. People who are on pharmaceutical drugs and really should not be exposed to the public or normal colleagues. It makes for less than a bearable work place.
Management is nonexistent. Some sales associates at Phillips Place in Charlotte, NC run the store. They do as they please. Management is supposed to help with sales but they don’t. Management is supposed to keep things in confidence but they don’t. Management is supposed to communicate but they don’t. Management is supposed to encourage but they only criticize. This Brooks Brothers at Phillips Place really is like a cult. If you like cults and they allow you to work there, great; but if you have any sense of self or your own person, STEER CLEAR! YIKES! I could go on and on but you get the picture.

I worked at Brooks Brothers full-time

    Pros

It was great to work with charities and help in the community. Pay tends to be pretty good.

    Cons

There are many stated values that are not part of the actual culture. Very political environment. Completely resistant to change. There is an alarming lack of diversity in key positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management is not connected to what is going on. They don't trust the field organization.

I worked at Brooks Brothers as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

There are training sessions available on site for the latest company technology. During the year there are various free fitness programs for employees including yoga. It is a very charitable organization that hosts several drives throughout the year including St. Jude's Children hospital.

    Cons

There is a cult like corporate culture that is VERY toxic. Be prepared to be marginalized if you don't follow the herd. There is quite a bit of petty gossip and promotions seldom come from within. Brooks Brothers is very disorganized and lacks innovation. If you are a creative type steer clear of this company. The management lacks knowledge on several things including software they are required to use on a daily basis. The work load exceeds the level of compensation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training should be required for all management personnel on company software along with leadership skills. Get over your egos and titles.

I worked at Brooks Brothers full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company is long-established, clothes are beautiful and well-made, employee discount is good, and health benefits are great. The company knows who it is and who its customers are. They do a good job of catering to their clients.

    Cons

Must fit into the culture or you'll be miserable. It really comes down to the store culture. If your manager likes you, things will be great. The manager makes the schedules, so be aware that you will not always get days off or the shifts you would like.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep promoting from within and work on retention.
