I worked at Broward Community College
Pros – Employees and co-workers are generally very friendly and you get the chance to make a difference in the lives of many students.
The Board of Trustees holds hearings for students, staff and faculty throughout the year to voice their concerns.
Cons – There aren't many kinds of jobs available if you're not an educator or willing to do technical or clerical support work.
If you are a part-time employee, you have no guarantee of future work within the college if and when there are funding cuts, even if you have been an employee for a long time.
Information is difficult to find on your own if you're not already knowledgeable or in the right department. The website is terrible and has been for many years, even after recent changes.

I have been working at Broward Community College
Pros – The people at the department level are wonderful. My immediate supervisor couldn't be nicer or more supportive. My fellow colleagues are also wonderful.
Cons – The upper administration is heavy into politics and trying to please a micromanaging Board of Trustees. As a result, because of their fear of losing their jobs, the upper administration doesn't do what is best for the Faculty and staff below them. They do not support pay raises that try to catch up to the increase in the cost of living in South Florida. They also claim there is no money for pay raises, but if you look at all the new construction going up on the campuses, the average person might disagree.
Advice to Senior Management – The upper administration needs to put the students first by treating Faculty and staff well. If they don't, the college will implode. A good public image can only remain if the college doesn't self-destruct from within. Morale is extremely low, and we will not be able to best serve our students if we don't treat the employees with respect and dignity.
