  1. My experience at the institution gave me valuable knowledge and experience.

I worked at Broward Community College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are excellent benefits including health, dental, pension etc. Also, great educational benefits. Employees receive many holidays off including Winter break and Spring break.

    Cons

There is very little career advancement. Also, there is little or no promotion opportunities in many of the departments. There is no career path. Compensation for positions is low and not within the market standards.

  2. Good place to gain experience, but gets frustrating after a while.

I have been working at Broward Community College (more than a year)

    Pros

Great people, atmosphere, environment, and purpose. Most care deeply about the community, students, and their work. Lots of vacation time (school holidays).

    Cons

A slow moving, somewhat monolithic organizational structure. Most departments overworked and understaffed. Poor communication between departments. Paranoia, politics, and CYA abound.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Academic culture is great, organizational culture needs some attention.

I have been working at Broward Community College

    Pros

Pros of working at this institution are rapidly diminishing. It is a good place to star a career. But, don't get too comfortable, the next best opportunity is out there waiting.

    Cons

There is chronic lack of directions from mid-management.

I worked at Broward Community College

    Pros

Flexible work schedule. Really good when you have to go to school full time you can work part time on the campus

    Cons

If you do your work and stay to your self you should be fine no one will bother you but if you start being lazy and just being there for a check then you will see some cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep it up

I worked at Broward Community College full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great location. Opportunity to get to know a lot of different people from different backgrounds. Opportunity to network.

    Cons

The positions are limited and there is no clear career path in which one could grow in. This is why there is a big turnover for the Administrative positions. You are not paid very well, most of the time is minimum wage. There is only one person doing a lot of different jobs all at once. If you wish to work here, you have to be willing to multitask but make sure you don't drop the ball.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people in different positions, one person cannot do the job of administrative assistant, personal assistant, receptionist, program coordinator, teacher coordinator, student coordinator, office manager, office janitor, keep up with inventory, for only a minimum wage salary. If you are wiling to hire/open more positions, and pay them a respectable amount of money, the company wouldn't have to go through so many admins.

I have been working at Broward Community College part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you're independently wealthy and just looking for something to do with you time than this is the right place for you!

    Cons

The bureaucratic culture is disconnected from the realities that professors face, there's little to no room for upward mobility unless you are able to deal with several years of abysmally low page and precarious employment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Serious adjustments need to be made to clear communication lines, establish uniform bureaucratic procedures, rationalize the online components by pooling money with other Florida colleges for higher quality administration, spending less money on "spirit" give aways and other projects, incorporate the wisdom of the lower levels by creating a better method for adjuncts to give feedback...
