I worked at Brown Printing full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I enjoy working with my hands and various types of tools along with working machinery and I have a high sense of mechanical ability and I can repair many things, and set up and operate, various types of bindery machinery. And I'm not afraid to learn or try new operations or new machinery procedures

    Cons

Training people that have a hard time understanding the operation, and some jobs or tasks are more difficult to do, some older machines that aren't really user friendly take a little and longer to learn. Office people that try to run a machine who haven't proper training knowledge and understanding of the procedures make more work for every one on the crew and you have to treat every one on the crew with the same respect regardless of how hard the try to do the work, you can't or shouldn't play favorites.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the people know the job well, let them preform their duties with out hassle and provide some type of incentives. be cause a happy employee is a productive employee.

I worked at Brown Printing full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Company values are in line with my own. Treat the customer right, invest in technology and take care of employees.

    Cons

Unification of multiple plants can be challenging from time to time. Finding best practices and implementing them at all locations is tough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Identify managers early and train them to be managers of people.

I have been working at Brown Printing full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Company promotes within, so there is lots of room for growth and advancement. Pay scales are not bad. Most of the employees are very friendly.

    Cons

12 hour shifts in production make for a long day. The benefits could be cheaper and could have lower deductibles. Too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold people accountable including supervision. Don't pass the buck to another department.

I worked at Brown Printing full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Once you were in, you were in. The company hated to fire anyone, even when they should have, could have, and anyone else would have. They really tried to be a great place to work, but in recent years they followed the trends instead of having their own identity (which they had in the past).

    Cons

Often long hours, so you had to love it. Very little confidentiality; many managers loved to gossip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should've made the tough cuts to keep competitive. And, way, way, way, way too many managers were added after the transformation scheme was scrapped.
