Pros
They offer employees the opportunity to take classes at Wash U to help them understand basic business administration (i.e. economics, acctng, etc).
Cons
All job functions are assigned a number, which represents it's rank in the Brown Shoe hierarchy. This limits an individuals mobility within the organization based on the numerical assignment of positions that they may be interested in applying for.
Pros
Very nice people, friendly employees
Cons
Management has poor judgement, does not allow time to get to know employee before making decisions
Advice to Senior Management
Need to be more open with employees
Pros
Got a lot of hours, 50+ always had overtime
Cons
It demands alot of work. Hard to keep people
Advice to Senior Management
we went through 5 dm's. under qualified canidates
Pros
easy to learn about the shoes and how to sell
Cons
workplace is horrible. terrible management and terrible attitude and performance of employees.
Advice to Senior Management
hire some employees who will actually work, not people who will give nasty attitude to every customer that may possibly have an issue with a shoe. recognize when employees are lying out of their butts and want to get other employeess fired. make sure everyone in each department is not talking crap about each other every time they turn around and that your store managers are not trying to instigate problems between employees.
Pros
Great people to work with
Cons
There wasnt any really. I enjoyed working there and everyone was extremely nice. The only drawback might be flexibility when it came to schedule.
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Flexible hours, most of the people there are easy to get along with, the job isn't too hard of work, you meet a lot of interesting people.
Cons
The pay is just awful, for every position. It's great if you're in college or high school but I wouldn't stick around much longer after that if I were you.
Advice to Senior Management
Your new sales design, "Connect 4", is going WAY too far into customers business. You expect us to become personally involved with every customer in the store, yet offer no extra incentive or commission. I doubt many of you ever really worked a large scale retail job... Personally I don't do any of it.
Pros
Great Employees and Managers - Fast Paced
Cons
Long Hours, High Turnover, Basic Pay Scale
Advice to Senior Management
Better Staffing
Pros
Flexible job while I was in Highschool. No real growth or opportunities. The manager I had was incompetent and immature.
Cons
Poor management was immature and not emotionally capable of handling her own life. When problems happened in her life she dumped extra work on assistant managers, which was a constant occurrence.
Advice to Senior Management
Better reviews for store level managers. There were no metrics to measure their capacity at management, only metrics to measure their sales levels.
Pros
very flexible and good with hours. very friendly workplace. if i needed help it was given promptly.
Cons
sometimes the customers were difficult to deal with and handling certain cash procedures were a bit of a hassle at times.
Advice to Senior Management
she was fair and completed her work and made sure everyone was happy.
Pros
I loved shoes so working there was great for the discount. Bonuses where done fairly on a monthly bases not quarterly or yearly so you got them more often.
Cons
There was nothing to prevent people from shoplifting. The only deterrent was customer service, but that was hard to provide when hours where cut and you where left alone with a busy store.
Advice to Senior Management
Have a greater understanding of what goes on at store level as far as theft, lack of training and payroll.
