Pros
- There is a focus on running lean
- Employee stock ownership is encouraged
- Some good managers and people
Cons
- Secretive bonus process
- There is a lack of encouragement to move to different offices for career opportunities. Every office acts like its own small company.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more open about the review and bonus process. Give more employees a stake and clearer picture in terms of the bonus structure and make this system more transparent. The employees are dependent on what their individual manager tells them. Develop career paths for movement among various offices in the company.
Pros
Good room for growth in the company
Cons
Its insurance. Not much else to say.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work
Pros
Small and flexible company which is good for newcomers to the industry
Cons
There seems to be little growth opportunity
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Very nice co-workers. You are recognized for good work by upper management. Managers are eager to help you advance your career if you work hard.
Cons
Low pay and boring atmosphere. I would recommend this for a place to start out and leave as soon as possible.
Advice to Senior Management
I would recommend that they figure out a better way to recruit new employees because they could boost their business by cutting poor workers and hiring competent ones.
Pros
Brown & Brown is a nationwide, publicly traded company that offers its interns room for growth and development within the company.
Cons
From what I have heard, Brown & Brown is fairly cheap when it comes to salary and especially the commission percentage they give to their employees.
Advice to Senior Management
All the people in leadership positions seem competent and well-deserving of their positions. They all seem to really care about the well-being of their employees.
Pros
Rarely had to work overtime. Excellent health insurance, and professional co-workers. Good location with ample parking. Time off was generously allowed.
Cons
Old computer systems. Low starting salary with slow advancement. The business processes were not streamlined and communication between departments was not always dependable.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest more resources in upgrading the equipment in the work environment. Work on streamlining administrative processes. Generally just invest more in upgrading the look and feel of the workspace.
Pros
Brown & Brown is a streamlined organization that rewards production. If your focus is centered on sales metrics, you should find, in B&B, a good environment to work. Also, much of their business plan seems devoted to acquisition. Given the current market for financial services, it is conceivable that the additions to the B&B family might open up new opportunities or synergies given the marketplace you work in. Lastly, Brown & Brown is a top 10 insurance brokerage competing nationally with the larger players, i.e Marsh, Aon, Arthur J. Gallagher etc. What sets B&B apart is their unrelenting devotion to managing their financial health. Their stock has been a historical performer for sometime.
Cons
Brown & Brown is, by enlarge, a transaction based organization that is short-sighted. Overall growth seems driven through acquisition and not internal or organic performance.
Advice to Senior Management
My greatest frustration was working for a third-party-administer providing insurance, risk management and claims services to its clients. Senior management seemed to know very little about insurance, risk management and claims services. In the time I spent with the company, I saw a tremendous amount of nepotism and personnel cliques that seemed to wrest away control - from competent leaders. It is my opinion that this was a function of management's inexperience.
Pros
Very flexible with work schedule and the opportunity to work from home.
Cons
Substantial amount of work that cannot be fit within a 40-hour work week.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more creative with ways to look for growth
