Pros
-Decent Pay/Benefits
-Flexible work arrangements
-High Quality Co-Workers
-Nice Facilities
-Spends money to keep up moral
challenging enviroment; benefits comparable to other companies
Cons
-People tend to over analyze projects and people can make analysis match the desired outcome
-Horrible IT (It's a wonder this company is still in business considering how much they rely on IT)
-Promotions are very political (If you have a manager who won't fight for you then forget about getting promoted. Also, young analyst are promoted based on seniority. Once you have 18 months, you get promoted no matter how much you suck)
-Good analysts do not necessarily make good managers. People managers should have people skills!
-Company seems like they do not learn from previous mistakes. They seem to be willing to go down the same path that previously got them in trouble. Especially if their has been a change in management.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't depend on the data to make every little decision. The data is wrong pretty often or it can be molded to support any decision. Do a better job of promoting the best people which will help retain top talent.
Pros
Fun, friendly people
You don't have to ask to go to the bathroom.
A very casual place to work.
You got free popsicles.
I learned a lot about textbooks. More than anyone should ever know.
Cons
Un-air-conditioned in 100 degree weather in the summer.
Repetitive work
Long hours
You have to stand up all day.
You have to lift huge boxes of heavy textbooks all day.
Semi-dangerous environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Please air-condition the warehouse. I knew someone who FAINTED from the heat this summer. It's a really un-healthy work environment.
Pros
Not a tough job, very easy product
Cons
No advancement, no corporate vision.
Pros
The book business is fun. It is hard work and lots of travel. You can make decent money. But this company is losing it's edge. I don't know how long they will last.
Cons
Upper Management out of touch with the business and it's changes in the current market. "Stick head in the sand" approach. Inventory is pitiful, making it hard on a ambitious salesman.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't be a Zepplin, be a jet! This company has a good heart, but they are behind the times.
Pros
Exciting, you get around and meet a lot of people. This is a very competitive industry, so there can be a lot of dissapointments but also alot of rewards. If you work your territory, you can make a lot of money. You will work hard at times, but there are down times and you can build your relationships amongst your schools during those times. It can be fast paced and it is always changing. I really like the positive environment of the company and it is very forward thinking. You have an opportunity to grow as much as you like.
Cons
Away from home especially during busy spring/summer season.
