    Pros

Good hours, fair pay, and opportunities to move up in the company. Management is very considerate of personal issues and other problems.

    Cons

Our workshop is primarily female so drama can be an issue, but management does the best it can to nip it in the bud.

I have been working at Build-A-Bear full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It's fun hanging out with kids most of the day. The environment is full of bear puns, which may or may not get old quickly. The pay is not too bad as a CWM, but you end up working a lot of additional hours during peak times. Ability to attract fun employees that love kids makes for a great team.

    Cons

Unrealistic sales plans so that your bonus is unattainable, with up to 20% increases over LY for base plan. Corporate communication needs to be streamlined. It's like they're a small company still, but they're trying to fit into big boy pants & don't know how to do it. Tools are all over the place and processes differ from district to district and even store to store. Quality issues with products have gotten increasingly worse, even over a one year time span. Unprofessional altogether.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put processes into place & stick to it. Enough of the wishy-washy baloney. Make bonus attainable and stop spending corporate money on cheap trinkets for employees. No one cares about a crappy logo water bottle.

    Pros

Great people. Caring team that really acts like a family.

    Cons

There is no room for advancement. They say that they will train you to move up but never do and as soon as a position opens, they hire from outside the company because no one inside is ready is what they say. Well train us then and stop just saying you will.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through with what you say you will do. Train and promote the people already on your team and stop looking outside the company. You will start losing great people.

I have been working at Build-A-Bear part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Positive environment
Gets you in a good mood
    Not many rude costumers
    Costumers love you
    Time flyes by (at first)

All that mentioned above is true for most stores, but still the right management is needed. I've had the coolest manager, most uplifting, that worked with and listened to the whole team's ideas, very laid back,& we all loved challenging and competing with each other YET we would always be giving tips to the others to help the entire store. It was great team work, but after that manger left, we had a few bad ones that were very hard to work with.

    Cons

    -HOURS suck!
    -pay is minimum wage
-hours are bad even for associate managers
-You can't be super excited and happy all the time, you're human. This is supposed to be a happy place, and the over-excitement gets old and annoying.
-some of your co-workers might be strange.

    Pros

Hands down the best training and work environment available.

    Cons

Needed more hours. Promotions from within the company (to management) provide minimal pay increase.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't lose sight of your mission. The goal is for guest and employee to have fun.

    I worked at Build-A-Bear part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Extremely fun atmosphere, the kids are usually very happy to be there, none of the tasks are particularly difficult. Have heard benefits are available to store associates on a need-basis, great employee discount

    Cons

*Very dependent on the store, this is for Friendswood, TX location in Baybrook Mall*

Can be difficult to move up
Seasonal Staff usually under-trained, putting pressure on other employees
Not enough registers/stuffers for the traffic that goes through
High volume store - need to be able to keep up under pressure
If you perform well, you'll get scheduled on busier days more often
Compensation low for amount of work expected

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Avoid favoritism
Consider better work-life balance (don't guilt someone into coming in on their day off)
Take an employee's education into more consideration
Better balance of hours - if they don't "deserve" hours, then why are you keeping them?
Continuous training recommended. Even as a customer, I'm seeing things that I was told never to do on day 1.

    I have been working at Build-A-Bear part-time

    Pros

    The kids are really great.

    Cons

You don't get any hours. They always want you to buy new uniforms. Store make 10k a day minimum but pay workers 9a hour. Never was given a raise. No room to expand or grow. Managers play favorites. There's always the favorites with 30 hours while others get 9. Managers feel they should pay employees less. Employees do everything while they hang out in the front and gossip.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat employees better.

    I have been working at Build-A-Bear part-time

    Pros

    - Working with children and families is the best. Especially when a child is excited.
    - It is a rewarding job helping others find their perfect bear.
    - My coworkers are like a family to me. We all help each other and we're there for each other.
    - Flexible schedule

    Cons

    - Very little hours. Thanks to this my pay is very low since I make eight dollars an hour.
    - Some part time managers are difficult to work with, but they're not horrible.
-Very little room for promotion since no one leaves.
    - I have to ask permission to clock out. This has never happened to me at another job. I do stay a few minutes late if I'm working with a customer, but I have other obligations and responsibilities. I can't stay an extra half hour without compensation just because someone is on break or just doesn't feel like dealing with the customers we have in the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would love more hours, but I understand that only a certain amount could be given out depending on sales. Respect your part time employees, since they're the ones working with the customers. We definitely deserve more than a pizza party once a year..
