    Pros

I really enjoy working at BUPA. They're very good to staff and give them recognition, They are constantly wanting to hear from us and work on our feedback. I love working for such a big, global company. There's lots of career opertunities.

    Cons

I feel that where I work, there is a lack of staff. Also there seems to be a lot of budgeting. I also feel that we deserve alot more than the minimum wage.

Brilliant and exciting place to work

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Fantastic purpose that binds the company together.
Strong and engaging exec leadership that is really challenging the status quo, changing the culture, embracing innovation and exciting (albeit aggressive) plans in areas such as digital, already with early results.
A real sense of optimism on what is possible

    Cons

As you can see from other reviews, the size of the opportunity and ambition is not for everyone. If you are not resilient, passionate or uncomfortable with change, it's not for you.
If you thrive on making a real difference to people and their health and are prepared to contribute and commit to some big ambitions, you'll love it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be bold and relentlessly drive us to where Bupa can be.

Avoid working on Bupa.co.uk site migration at all costs

Current Employee - Project Manager in London, England (UK)

    Pros

The Gym, The Canteen, some very good people outside of the Digital Transformation

    Cons

Digital team (Bupa.co.uk) is frankly a joke, new management team bought in have no absolutely no idea how to run a large scale project and display staggering levels of incompetence. Rather than build relationships they have come in with an aggressive, cocky, all guns blazing attitude that has won then no friends. No structure and pretty much a free for all which has resulted in a frustrated, miserable and disaffected team.

Biweekly project meetings consisted of ignoring the real issues and focusing on projects which are going well as a blatant smoke screen, the Program manager, (I use the term loosely), included technical drawings in a board report, yes indeed it was the laughing stock of Bupa.

In close to 2 years the team have managed to deliver a 5 page brochure site at a cost of millions looks horrendous and has no back end functionality, I kid you not. An API project which should have been delivered in 6 months has barely got off the ground after 2 years. I could go on all day. To top it all off the management team are aggressive, obnoxious and rude completely at odds with the Bupa ethos.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

STOP..... the current digital migration management team do not know what they are doing, put them out of there misery, bupa.co.uk is a disaster waiting to happen(ing), there is some fantastic talent out there and in Bupa go find it, build from the top down.

    Pros

Thought it was a good company with a good name, free meal.

    Cons

Leadership is up the wall! Don't know who's in charge most of the time. Any ideas put forward never get acted on or listened to. Never any sheets and when u ring the laundry for some they have an attitude problem! Sometimes have to wait for towels in the morning meaning people who are in bed have to wait to get washed! Don't care if its legal or not but staffing levels are always at the minimum making it impossible to actually take time and care for these people. Hardly any activities! Residents sitting for hours on end watching TV thier not even interested in. Staff have really low moral which doesn't make the home a happy one. And pay is crap but most probly always will be! Often get abuse from residents who have full capacity and are allowed to just speak to us that way. And you have to give all your holiday hours in at the beginning of the year or the office will allocate you them!! Ridiculous!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come and actually work on the floor with the people who have to do the hard graft and see how hard it is and what its actually like to work!

    Pros

Team work, friendly staff and free meals and uniform.

    Cons

Never enough staff, pay is rubbish. try to claim benefits only to be told you can no longer claim. So on top of the rubbish pay they wont step up and give you the benefits they promise you. Not recognised for the hard work you put in, all the over time and no thank you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cycle to work scheme has ended very upset by this yet still on website. Pay is just above min wage not good, never enough staff on shift and hard to give care needed because of this. Asked bupa to train me as a nurse as my home is desperate for one and has been for years, you said no even though i offered a contract for years after.

    Pros

Established brand, appears attractive on one's resume.

    Cons

Management live in their own bubble and are lacking in leadership qualities. The company does not invest in its people and sends them out expecting to hit home runs but often without tactics or a bat. Lacks ambition and is likely to get ambushed once healthcare evolves through the technical opportunities.
Unlike a good Bordeaux, Bupa is not ageing well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand there is a difference between management and leadership.
Appreciate that it does not matter whose mouth a good idea comes out of.

Current Employee - Care Assistant in London, England (UK)

    Pros

It is a safe place to work and everybody works as a team which is so difficult to find this atmosphere somewhere else. All mandatory training is provided which is the best for the workers.

    Cons

So often it is challenging to work in such place as the residents some are mentally sick so with the training provided from Bupa there is nothing hard to deal with this type of challenging behaviour.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Personally i think there should a change in the rate per hour as really it is hard to work so hard all day and in returns we are not paid the proper amount of money i think there should be an assessment with the carers.

Former Employee - IT Specialist  in  Manchester, England (UK)
Former Employee - IT Specialist in Manchester, England (UK)

    Pros

A great team with some of the best specialists in their chosen field. Brilliant work environment which just breeds team spirit and professionalism. The management structure meant that reviews were carried out and that opportunity for progression was only ever a step away, and with a world wide operation base it is always worth pushing yourself. BUPA seems to built around it's staff, and you really feel it when you are part of the team.

    Cons

Some departments have exceptional working hours and even the rota system doesn't always feel like there is a long enough break for the type of work that you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider that sometimes, maybe, an employee may be having a life problem that may last a couple of months, maybe consider a better review system for this scenario. To hire in a specialist and let them go because of circumstances beyond there control is the only thing that didn't really sit right with BUPA, it is an amazing organisation and just this small thing still happens.

    Pros

Great working environment, good perks such as gym allowance, healthcare, meal allowance and opportunity for progression.

    Cons

Lack of key business needs such as clear processes, working systems, a training department.....
