I worked at Bureau Veritas Consumer Product Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked for BV in their Oakbrook, client specific office for 3.5 years. Looking back on it, I miss it. It had great benefits. I still keep in contact with my former coworkers. They provide excellent training. As a knowledge center for the consumer products industry, their biggest benefit is the amount they train their employees.

    Cons

There wasn't a lot of room to move up in the ranks.

  2. Was a decent job, hard to manage all the new changes

I have been working at Bureau Veritas Consumer Product Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people were great to work with and the job was pretty interesting. The pay was comparable to other jobs in the area, the benefits were pretty great. There were lots of groups to join if you wanted to, company activities and whatnot. They do try to make you have more than just a job there.

    Cons

Lots of changes coming from above that didn't always make sense. My group had a really great system to keep up with the work load, but then had to make changes that made no sense to appease the higher ups. Lots of people don't really seem to know what they're doing. The workload seemed to be feast or famine, but you deal.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people who have systems in place that already work! If it isn't broke, don't fix it. And if it is broke, look at the people who are doing it right for ideas.

BV CPS, a division of Bureau Veritas S.A., is a leader in consumer goods (testing, inspection, certification).

    Pros

BV CPS in the US offers a good working environment. There's a lot of flexibility in terms of location and many of the staff have worked for the company for a long time. Compensation is good and benefits are better than average. There's opportunity for those that seek it out - by contributing beyond their job title and especially by satisfying customer needs. BV has one of the stronger technical services groups in the industry as well as highly dedicated account and program management teams. Its prospects for growth (as well as its industry) are strong.

    Cons

BV CPS is head-quartered in Hong Kong and the bulk of the the work it executes (testing, inspection, certification) takes place in Asia (China, India, SE Asia, etc.). As such, staff conference calls in the evening US time are the norm and email traffic occurs 24 hours a day. The company can also be bureaucratic - there's a lot of red tape to get through to execute solutions for customers. Finally, in recent years there has been less of a focus at the division level on employee growth and empowerment.

I worked at Bureau Veritas Consumer Product Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are the best asset of BV, they also have a very reasonable benefit package and flexible hours.

    Cons

A change in upper management has changed the culture and morale of the working atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Keep communication lines open and pay attention to those employees who have been loyal and hardworking over the years. If a long term employee suddenly complains or decides to leave, find out why so you do not lose good staff.

    Pros

A big Enterprise to work for.

    Cons

Biased HR policies. HR is not aware of best practices. HR is not aware of standard practices. HR never listen to employee issues. Biased Management Politically motivated management worst is IT Do not care for their employee. No motivation for their employee, management consider them to work like donkey. No proper escalation matrix. No 360 degree feedback for N+1. No policies for employees grooming. No transparency in the system. One man dictatorship practice, without considering the employee views. Working environment is getting worst day by day, very high attrition rate. No future growth. No basic amenities. No job security.

    Advice to Management

Need to focus on the above said points.
