The teams that I worked with were very supportive and experienced. They knew what they were doing and that helped me a great deal.

I worked at Bureau Veritas full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I worked for the Industries and Facilities division of BV North America, and I have to say I loved the product we were providing. The quality of our final reports was held to a higher standard than at least our local competition, giving me satisfaction in my overall work experience. I do not tolerate sloppiness in final products as a rule, and BV stands by the same principles.

    Cons

I didn't quite understand the workings of "corporate." As a small branch in a remote area, we were mostly cut off from the corporate world, but whenever something like a raise was discussed, my managers said things like, "we wanted to give you more, but corporate wouldn't allow it."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep demanding a high quality product and your employees will continue to remain proud to work for you. However, I would allow more flexibility to local management in providing for the local branches. The review sheets upper management receives on employee performance do not tell the whole story of the local dynamic. What one manager sees as "fantastic exceptional amazing" another may expect as a baseline, even within a local branch, skewing perceived performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove your reactive middle managers and adopt a pro-active approach to management. Deploy tested systems in the Lab that work well for the users. Work along side your technicians for extended periods to understand the challenges they are facing and proactively develop protocols that support the work flow.
