I worked at Burke Williams full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Your co workers become like family. Everyone holds themselves accountable for their work. The owners and upper managers make their presence known in positive ways.

    Cons

Scheduling and finding coverage can be a nightmare. No paid time off or sick days, no holiday pay. No competitive pay scale for managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay the managers on duty more. They really carry the spa to achieve the 5 star status and are not rewarded accordingly.

I worked at Burke Williams full-time for less than a year

    Pros

It's a great work environment at the location in Sunset, the management does it's best to make the employees happy. Staff is young and friendly. As a Front desk, they try to compensate the hourly by giving you free services which is awesome and a hand pick of gift cards depending how many membership goals you obtain.

    Cons

Corporate set goals that are unreachable.

    Good for industry experience, but...

    I worked at Burke Williams

    Pros

Coworkers were great, the wellness program was great, and the exposure to the industry was great.

    Cons

Management was extremely unprofessional, unorganized, disrespectful and had horrible communication skills. My managers let me go by lying about a mandatory meeting to lure me in, and fired me instead. I had been part of the company for a year and a half, and was well-liked by most of my coworkers. I wish I had been treated with more respect than that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat others how you want to be treated. Be honest. Make decisions more based on what's good for the company, including it's employees well being...you are a wellness company afterall.

Former Employee - Massage Tech  in  Orange, CA
Former Employee - Massage Tech in Orange, CA

I worked at Burke Williams full-time for more than a year

    Pros

My co-workers were amazing! Very friendly people who work there, we all look out for each other. Don't have to clean or do laundry. Free spa use. Allowed to bring private clients for a $5 per service room fee. Supplies provided for you. Gratuity tips are usually good. Opportunity to make good money for specialty services like Deep Tissue, Prenatal, etc. if you are booked enough with them. Get treated with more respect it seems compared to other places like Massage Envy.

    Cons

Can be stressful working there at times, especially during the weekends. The pay per massage is too low considering the price they charge for the service. The company will take the clients side if their are any complaints against you, no matter what you say. If the client is ever in the wrong they seem to not want to hold the client accountable. The company is against you full force if client complains but if the client is in the wrong they seem to not care about it or make excuses for them. Completely unfair! Burke Williams cares a lot about their reputation in the spa industry but don't know that they have a bad reputation within the Massage Therapist community. The company is still struggling financially since the beginning of the recession and has a high employee turn over rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For the most part Burke Williams is well managed but I think the company needs to review and change some of their polices. Polices are very one sided.
