I worked at Burlington Coat Factory part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

25% discount on merchandise for a week once every other month

    Cons

Constant altering of work schedule, sometimes the day of a shift, with no calls of alert
Lack of reliability on management staff
    Lack of returned phone calls
Overbearing work load as a result of last minute schedule changes leading to understaff
Lack of humane hours. I've had weeks where I was given 8 hours, for the entire week

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Limit hours to a minimum of 12 hours a week
Don't change schedules last minute without some notice in advance
    Return phone calls
Create a more friendly- open door environment

I worked at Burlington Coat Factory part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Great Employees and friendly customers

    Cons

Internal Theft is almost an accepted fact. Every morning you are told to say something if you see something, that is not the case when its a supervisor or manager who is consistently stealing merchandise. I've also seen the work environment turn hostile on an employee who reports this type of theft. Managers refuse to acknowledge employees efforts even when a customer praises their customer service in front of the employee. Favoritism and overall shady internal practices. Pay is terrible and hours are nonexistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employees credit when it is due and don't continue to hire more people when you can just give hours to the backbone of your store. Have a sense of professionalism.

I worked at Burlington Coat Factory part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule-I opted for the lowest amount of hours possible and that was respected
Half way decent discount , especially when holidays roll around
Co workers are pretty much cool people; obviously you get so aggressive/ overbearing personalities but I feel that was more an exception than the norm

    Cons

Floor supervisors seemed both overwhelmed and simply unavailable
No decent system for ringing out customer when tags where missing which equates to horribly long lines and angry customers
The pay was horrible. I know it's retail but in NYC, it wasn't even enough to treat myself to lunch. I got paid nothing. Floor supervisors start at $10, which seems insane for the level of responsibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your workers more because you truly are asking a lot of them. Your brand is vastly represented by the employees your customers encounter. Poverty and a demanding job should not equate and quite frankly, it's a shame.

Develop a better system for entering items in the POS system if barcodes are missing. I cannot begin to express how daunting it is to wait 20 minutes for one barcode, as was my experience as a cashier (23rd and 6th)
