I worked at Butler America (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Butler has a comfortable, laid back work environment. Coworkers and supervisors are more than willing to mentor you and develop your skill set. My supervisor met with me regularly to ensure I understood goals, expectations and processes. Leadership has vastly improved under the new CEO.

    Cons

Benefits aren't the best, but then again that comes with the territory when you are doing contract work.

    Cons

I have not been paid for the last two pay periods and all I get is guff from them. I expect I will never be paid.

I have been working at Butler America as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good pay per hour. Somewhat flexible hours.

    Cons

Hardly any benefits and does not compare to other companies in the area. Holidays are few and you get a weeks pay after a year but really no real paid vacation days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the whole benefits package and rework it. Also upper needs to work on conflicts within the groups there is no real feeling that we are all working together.

    I worked at Butler America

    Pros

Good friendly work environment....no reprimanding for mistakes, just a "Make sure this does not happen again"

    Cons

Not a lot of training or direction and very low commission so not enough opportunity to make money in commissions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re think the commission structure to retain quality employees.

I worked at Butler America as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Relaxed work environment, flexible scheduling, and lots of good interaction with co-workers.

    Cons

Not much room for advancement. Also job futures were never very clear. Management was never clear as to what was going on with the contracts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the engineers in the loop. It is hard to assess our own performance when we never receive feedback.

    I worked at Butler America

    Pros

Scheduling flexibility and good people to work with.

    Cons

Little to no upward mobility, below market pay, no benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They're caught between a rock and a hard place, they can't offer competitive compensation and maintain their profit margins providing contract engineering.

I worked at Butler America full-time

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, mid management cares about employees and pleasing the customer, dedicated employees makes the work environment a good place to work.

    Cons

High turn over especially of sales staff, low growth opportunities, few customers to support, old equipment, substandard working equipment (old desks, chairs etc) senior management does not communicate well, poor benefits, salary is not competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better benefits, better communication, retain sales talent. Update the office with working desks and chairs.

I worked at Butler America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company offers a very flexible schedule to both full time employees and interns. Office environment is fun and friendly.

    Cons

Being a smaller company and a contractor, the benefits and pay are not the best. Being located in West Lafayette, you get the excuse "low cost of living" which translates to a smaller paycheck than you otherwise deserve. Experienced engineers do not feel valued and feel like they are replaceable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With a large number of employees <2 years experience, some people treat work like a classroom and talk/watch videos on their phone/games on their phones. Need to hire people who will focus and stay on task. Also need to make employees feel valuable and needed or else they will find better opportunities.

I have been working at Butler America as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

It's a pretty simple job to get started while completing school, there is very little formal training. Butler offers flexible hours to their interns and almost always makes an offer upon graduation.

    Cons

There isn't much opportunity to "advance" at this company. The pay and benefits are fair but not very competitive.
