    Pros

Most of the leadership has a lot of experience outside the company. Very respectful of their employees, compensation is good, benefits OK. San Antonio is a very pleasant city, and much bigger than most realize.

    Cons

Deep family background that can make realtionships more important than getting things done, causes frequent frustration. Some in upper management and leadership positions have little experience outside the company which limits their mgt skils and ability to think out of the box.

    Advice to Management

Understand what the business does well, and make those core competencies. Challenge everything else that is being done, employees find it difficult to bring new ideas forward.Get your leaders out of details and have them trust and empower their employees!

    Pros

Most the times You stay Busy. Company is Somewhat Rewarding for the Hard Work We do.

    Cons

Too Much Favortism and Nit Picking on Certain Employees. You start to See how the Company actually is, Which is Not Good. Predominately Hispanic and They keep it that Way. From Temp Service to Full Time. Other Races are kind of Obsolete to being Hired and for Promotion.

    Advice to Management

Management is Horrible. Employees are on a Point System and Management should be to. I didn't know that the Company pays for Supervisors to go Workout, Dinner Dates, and Movies on Company Time when They should be there Supervising.

The company has been in business for over 100 years, but do not treat their employees very well.

    Pros

No worries about company stability. The company offers an outstanding 401K program that is rare in todays economy. Good benefits with a salary range that is competitive with similar facilities in same market, yet newly acquired businesses are extremely slow to "catch up" with sister plants.

    Cons

The company operates strictly "by the book" with little to no personal employer-employee relationships. Upper management operates in their own world with no respect for the lower class worker. Team accomplishments are greatly talked about, but rarely proven. Talk is cheap. Definitely NOT a team oriented organization. They will push - push - push their management staff to an unhealthy work load and drive the need to contribute even more. An employee will never give quite enough to be considered "excellent" and they will use the technical aspects of rules and company law to protect themselves. They seem to spend a lot of time and resources protecting themselves from potential lawsuits; if they ran a good business there wouldn't be such a demand to focus on this area of business. Makes you wonder????

    Advice to Management

I won't waste my time giving advice to Management as it will not matter anyway.

    Pros

Pay and benefits were competitive. New corporate office is very nice and offers a fitness center and massage therapy. Good products. A lot of great people work there. Friendly culture. San Antonio is a good place to live.

    Cons

Poor communication flow. Those who had ties to the family or board members seemed to be given preferential treatment. Senior leadership had high tenure which can be good, but also resulted in a very narrow way of thinking. Limited career advancement opportunities. CEO spoke down to people and was not visible.

    Advice to Management

Better communication between departments and make yourselves more visible to employees. Eliminate preferential treatment to those tied to the Board or family. Hold people accountable vs. tolerating mediocre performance of highly tenured employees/leaders.

    Pros

Busy culture with good exposure to the food industry at the lower levels. Promotions to next level are easy for those willing to comply.

    Cons

Upper management is focused on their own well being. They will sacrifice anyone or anything to stay in their positions. Owners of the company are not involved and give too much discretion to a management team that isn't very good.

    Advice to Management

Keep the interest of the sharehoders first and foremost, get more indistry knowledge on the team.

    Pros

Benefits were good when I worked there, 401K with matching Seemed to be room for advancement as Supervisor positions were vacated fairly often Immediate supervisors and managers were great people to work for and with and supported me.

    Cons

Disconnect between workforce and management Coming home smelling like flour and dough; wearing industrial type uniform Less prestigious work than most colleagues from college

    Advice to Management

no advice that I could offer. I worked there quite some time ago, and was not dissatisfied when I left.
