I have been working at C.H. Robinson Worldwide full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere and co-workers, good benefits, very reputable employer, great resume booster

    Cons

Relatively low pay by industry standards, very little upward mobility, absenteeism from mid and upper mangaement

    Advice to Management

This company loses a lot of its talent after 1-2 years of employment. Employees often apply for internal job openings that they fully qualify for and never hear back. No talented, intelligent person wants to be stuck in a dead-end job with a company that doesn't pay attention to them.

I worked at C.H. Robinson Worldwide full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good building, knowledgeable coworkers, managers are usually available to talk to if needed. They do a lot of events for the employees and occasionally provide food.

    Cons

The development uses a waterfall methodology, meaning that either devs have nothing to do, or QA has nothing to do. Devs often find themselves with no tasks, or if they do have tasks, there's no requirements given to them. Sometimes devs are given a behemoth of a task to finish, and have to do it within a time crunch because the team doesn't have enough QA people. There's a lot of old, messy legacy code to work with here. One of the main applications is running on code written by outside contractors in the mid-2000s, and will never be rewritten because it would take too much time. Pray that you're not the employee who is the sole owner of this codebase. Devs are required to be in an on-call rotation. There are nearly a hundred support tickets coming in from the users daily, which speaks to a lack of scalability of the underlying code and hardware. The production release process is needlessly complicated and takes weeks to be approved. You have to put in the change request before the code is even finished.

    Advice to Management

Switch to agile entirely, and quickly. Ditch the legacy code. Reinvent the release process.

I worked at C.H. Robinson Worldwide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Some positions pay really well - Very proactive with non-profits - Benefits are pretty good -Job basics are easy to learn and the problems that arise are different each day

    Cons

    - Everything is at manager's discretion, so HR typically will not step in - Certain people are favorites - No flexible hours - No chance for career advancement

    Advice to Management

If management won't do their job, employees won't either. Please be involved with your employees and work with them. I don't think the turnover rate would be so high in a corporate position if managers did that.

Good company, but backwards culture and convoluted compensation structure clouds otherwise good experience.

I have been working at C.H. Robinson Worldwide full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

High energy workplace. Engaging work, never bored. Fun people. Plenty of opportunity within the company. Open floor plan encourages teamwork.

    Cons

No flexibility. Inability to retain top talent. Compartmentalized structure prevents collaboration and innovation. Poor communication between branches. Compensation is purposefully complex.

    Advice to Management

Fight to retain top talent. Many of our best people leave for other opportunities.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Provide a "down/up" review structure to allow employees to rate managers so that managers can be better and held accountable

    Pros

The corporate culture at CHR is young, they defintely make "fun" a priority, and you meet some great people. The job itself is great if you enough customer facing work in a fast- paced environment. Benefits are also really great.

    Cons

The biggest challenge I had with CHR was the base salary as an account manager. It's below industry standards, and for a recent graduate paying off some loans- it's tough!

    Pros

    - Fun environment, work hard/play hard - Ability to advance and move around/up within the company - Laid back culture for a publicly-traded Fortune 500 company - Lots of freedom to run your business as you see fit and explore entrepreneurial spirit

    Cons

    - Long hours, environment can be extremely stressful at times - Bring your work home with you, always on call - Compensation structure needs to be revamped, this company has lost WAY too many good people simply over $ - Can be a 'good ol boys club' in areas, wonder how some people ever got to the position they are in - Work/Life balance idea is considered a joke

    Advice to Management

Take a good hard look at how you compensate your employees, especially the high performers. You are losing too many good people to competitors (or simply other companies) and the primary reason is comp. In most cases, it probably wouldn't take that much $ to retain the individual, but this is a serious problem at CH.

great for career growth and strengthening multitasking skills. learning new aspects of the business daily. training/classes offered.

    Cons

high stress job with little recognition. base pay is low and it's a slow climb.

    Advice to Management

realize that your employees work extremely hard - 10 hr days and occasionally no lunch breaks which is viewed as 'normal' - this brings moral down.

I have been working at C.H. Robinson Worldwide full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

good benefits, fair compensation, leadership looks out for interest of its employees. The Office has a great teamwork feel. Co-workers often ask to help out if they are caught up on their tasks. management will help you move forward with your career if they seem opportunities that might fit your abilities and career goals

    Cons

Workload is what is expected although at times it can seem heavier than what should be expected. Heavy phone volume, and some of the people you talk to on a daily basis can be very rude.
