Pros
Great place to start a career or add experience to your resume.
The work environment is great, specially in the IT department. I wouldn't say the same in some areas of the business, but overall, there is great people there.
They offer a good benefits package that is very competitive and the salaries are also competitive.
In my experience, senior management makes goods decisions and takes care of the employees.
Cons
The salary ranges are not clear since they don't have a document that shows the salary ranges and position levels, so it is hard to see a clear path for your career.
Pros
- Challenging projects
- Leadership open to reccomendations made
Cons
- Pay could be better... seem lower then market
Pros
Robinson has a good corporate environment and most people are easy to get along with. Management does its best to make sure employees have the skills required to perform their job.
Cons
Some 'more senior' individuals (within IT) seem to lack required skills, and it seems that compensation isn't handled based on the work that has been done but rather how much management likes you.
Advice to Senior Management
Compensation should be based on effort, effectiveness, and value provided to CH Robinson. It is unfair to allow people to work at Robinson that do not produce results for over a year while other people have been working for the same time - fresh out of school - and are providing much more value with little recognition.
Pros
experienced, competent co workers. some of the brightest in the IT field.
Cons
a lot of people just collecting a check
Pros
- Flat company where people are treated equally and fairly.
- Opportunity to get out what you put in.
- Benefits are decent.
Cons
- Starting pay is a bit low.
- Being a flat company, it is hard to be in a division and "climb the ladder" to learn and make more. You have to move around to different areas to really learn.... this can be a pro too.
Advice to Senior Management
Create an internship with some substance that makes people want to stick around.
Pros
It's amazing how I got along with everybody at the company, it felt like they are close friends although the company itself is a corporation. I was a new college graduate but I was able to work on important things and get immediate feedback from my manager and users. The reason I left was to go to grad school and I'm still in touch with people from there.
Cons
It's in Minnesota, and Minnesota is very cold in the winter!
Advice to Senior Management
My direct manager was amazing, smart and nice to everybody.
I think the salaries for entry level employees should be higher, most of the people who graduated at the same time as me were making more money.
Pros
CPDS was probably the best environment to work as it has access to all the high profile and national accounts. Dynamic and fun people to work with. My manager was one of the most encouraging and supportive people to work with, which I don't think represents everyone in the company but that's my experience.
Cons
Work Saturdays sometimes. They don't have a lot of support to cross pollinate so people can enjoy new work skills. They don't have much support for career progression.
Also, I heard working in the branches kind of blows...it's a boiler room environment
Advice to Senior Management
Give more opportunities for your employees to become tomorrow's leaders. Also, quit one size fits all trainings.
Pros
All of the management is promoted from within. If you want to move up the ranks they help you put a development plan together and work with you on achieving it. You'll learn more about business here than in most colleges. The Chicago reviewers have a completely different structure than the rest of the company. Unless you're looking for a job there, virtually none of what they've said applies.
Cons
Bonuses vary a lot from year to year, sometimes you have to put in long hours. You have to be self motivated to make it. Very decentralized, so each location can be vary different.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work, it's a great place to be employed.
Pros
A lot of opportunity to move up the corporate ladder. Management is open to new ideas and sky is the limit.
Cons
Can be long hours trying to look busy when no real structured work is being passed your way. Can be a little tedius at times.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer a little more structure to the business analyst positions, but overall I think the company is doing a great job.
Pros
Job security is good due to the size of the company. There are opportunities to move around to different positions within the company.
Cons
You are forced to work long hours for low pay. The work is very tedious and boring. I've had many jobs in my life (including working at Dairy Queen, doing construction work, and working in a factory when I was young) and this was by far the worst experience of my life.
Advice to Senior Management
Work with new employees to help them get comfortable with the company. This will help them become productive much quicker.
