    ProsPay is average or even a little above average for non-union job. Benefits are average for a non-union job. Health insurance is better value than average for non-union job. Laid off employees have been getting severance pay.

    ConsThe management has always been more interested in consolidating and keeping power than in helping the company succeed or serving the customer. And who got promoted? Suckups and like-minded individuals. Quality workers either left or learned to shut up and not care. It became so obvious that the company was in trouble that the company president was fired and a new one was brought in from outside. He cleaned house somewhat a year later and about six or seven executive staff were let go, but the damage was already done: the incompetence of the upper echelon helped make the recession ten times worse and a lot of employees were laid off. And most of the managers that are still around haven't changed: the "teacher's pets" get away with anything and everything, the workers that aren't liked by the boss get subtly harassed. They still are more interested in looking good to their immediate superior than to the customer.

    Advice to Senior ManagementIf a company is in such bad shape that they fire the president and hire a replacement from the outside, talk to the employees about what's wrong. It's not a sign of weakness or indecision, it's an acknowledgement that they've seen the real problems and might have solutions. Just touring the facility and saying hi is not talking with them. Send out confidential questionaires, do interviews in private, something to get the inside scoop so that employees can talk freely without fear of revenge by management.
