    Pros

    I have been working with CA Technologies since last 4 years in core development teams.
    CA has one of the best work culture. The company believes in respect for employees.
    The work timings and leave policy is excellent. Things are transparent enough and you are free to reach to any level of management. As a part of engineering team you are free to write proposals and put forward your ideas. CA invests lot in employee benefits from trainings to various industry wide expert sessions. A good platform for patents and explore things.
    The company follows agile methodology which enables an engineer of any level to put forward his/her thoughts and ideas and competete with others.

    Cons

    Since most of the products from CA are specific to legacy technologies (specially mainframe) the scope of learning new technologies(UI / mobile) in market is little bit less.
    Most of the technical mangers are not so competent.
    The revenue is flat for the past 2-3 years.
    Layoff are very frequent in CA.

    Advice to Management

    Remove the middle management layer across CA since managers have no role in an agile development environment.
    Recruit people with specific technical expertise or a relevant experience , as a team lead/mentor to deliver a high quality product.
    Mindset change is required for engineering teams which can be accomplished only through external influence.

    Pros

    1. Good pay (better than other product base company)
    2. Work life balance
    3. Nice facilities such as cafeteria , big campus , gym etc

    Cons

    1. Not good for career growth as there is not much work/challenging work
    2. Most of the product are age old , so no development work for an aspiring individual
    3. Always threat to your job as management would fire you without giving any reason when there is problem with the product (management people are always safe whatever happen with product).
    4. No transparency in policies , Like other companies ,here too HR are like puppet who dance on the signal of management. HR are involved in one way communication (from management to employee ) .

    Advice to Management

    1. Don't hire and fire people just in 6 months because of fault of management.
    2. When there is issue with the product , management is equally responsible for that , rather blaming people who are leaf node in the hierarchy.

    Pros

    Excellent facilities, like Infrastructure, sports, canteen, technical Trainings
    Pay scale
    Flexible work hours and culture

    Cons

    Too many processes and designations cause unnecessary chaos.
    Agile implementation is very bad,: a ScrumMaster, a ProductOwner, a Team Architect, a Agile Coach, a Functional Manager and an external Agile coach are the people who would be interested in your team's work !

    Career growth is a nightmare. Promotions happen very rarely.
    Management is not concerned about individual growth at all.

    Internal Mobility is difficult too. No transparency in the procedure they follow. The job descriptions mentioned don't match the actual requirements many times.

    Strategy and the leadership is always being changed, which causes a lot of Restructuring and reorganizing which leads to Job cuts.

    Job security is always at risk.

    Technologies and frameworks used are outdated and not in line with the market trends.

    Annual appraisals/Performance management: Too many Goals are set for each employee (Individual/Development goals, Performance goals, Team goals, Core value goals).
    Even after completing most of them, you will be told that you are given the rating because of the management's mercy.

    Advice to Management

    Rather than changing the strategy every now and then, identify a set of products and attack the market.

    Rather than cutting the jobs at entry to SSE level, get the Product Management envision, plan and execute the Products as per customer needs.

    Cutting jobs of the product development team after 5 years of Product development due the the mistakes of the Product management during those 5 years is insane.

    Pros

    Adequate infrastructure for personal growth

    Friendly atmosphere

    Flexible work hours

    Cons

    Wait and Invest attitude of Middle and Higher Management (both Functional and Product) leads to misplaced priorities for team and individuals

    Management treats employees as pure head count who can be thrown into any product and expected to perform with high quality and speed irrespective of their prior expertise. Particularly has negative consequences for people with high experience.

    Advice to Management

    Please correct the Product Management's slow wait and go attitude for faster products to market

    Pros

    Work-life balance, good facilities including in-house doctor, respect for individual contributors, good pay package, challenging work, good quality standards, good sports and recreation facilities.

    Cons

    Growth is not fast. It is a structured environment, so one has to satisfy many requirements to be considered for a promotion/pay raise. The managers' discretion plays an uncomfortably crucial role in deciding your growth and compensation.

    Advice to Management

    Thanks to the vision from the US headquarters, we have fairly good policies in place. Please don't mess it up by passing off biased decisions and judgments as fair practices. One can easily defend even a bad decision by showing that it is complying with the "rules" that are in place. Following rules by the letter is different to following them by the spirit. Upholding the spirit of the standards is more important.

    Pros

    A peaceful location with a lot of lawns, good work life balance

    Cons

    CA's motro - "Buy some startup and work hard on killing it". I haven't come across one good organically developed product. You will not only gain any technical skills but you will also lose whatever you had before coming in. Don't fall for a salary, turn back and join a startup/ other decent company. No commitment to deadlines, always the releases are pushed over and the blame comes on the engineering team.

    Advice to Management

    Develop one good organic product! Else please sell your company, but I guess no one is going to put their money on you.
