    On the Up and Up

Program Director (Current Employee) South San Francisco, CA

ProsGood people to work with and with recent new CEO, the executive team is making good decisions to focus on delivering great products and improve customer value.

ConsCA is a big beast with legacy culture that gets in its own way. But this is changing from the top down.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemove the command and control structures that get in the way of individuals and teams truly innovating.

ConsThere is some lack of intergration between solution units - to the point of competition - this causes focus on selling your product set - not the necessarily understanding the landscape - this is changing however sooner is better

Advice to Senior ManagementUNificaiton of message - practices and teams.

    Old boys network

Vice President (Former Employee) South San Francisco, CA

ProsCA is great if you have the right relationships with the right people. When that's the case, there are great opportunities, with appropriate recognition and rewards.

ConsThere is no mentorship or guidance to help you learn who the right people to know are. In addition, if you don't have those relationships the environment is intolerable.

Advice to Senior ManagementVerify feedback regarding high-level employees with additional sources before assuming the accuracy of said feedback.

Old style company, weak middle and senior management

Account Manager (Current Employee) South San Francisco, CA

ProsGood base salary, commissions and unparalleled perks (2 mini club and 1 compass club trips each year).

ConsManagement has the shortest span of attention ever: "What have you done for me today?"
Specifically in Sales, there is no account management/ planning culture.
In general, the organization is overly complex and inefficient. Lots of SVP, tons of VP. SVP/ VP might have SVP/ VP reporting to them. Many SVP/ VP have no reports at all...
Benefits are weak, especially the healthcare plans suck: expensive contribution and out-of-pocket.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a better look at what your people are doing instead of just counting the $$$ coming in.
Go out and actually meet customers!
In general more consistency, stick to your guns at least a little longer...

Trying to reshape company but still dogged by politics and distributed management.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) South San Francisco, CA

ProsCA is doing well in the market and has a clear vision for success.
They are instituting processes to manage their disparate businesses and determine where they are spending their money.

ConsEmployees are treated like pawns and shuffled around constantly. Company has a hard time keeping very talented people on board. The company culture has a major clash with the Silicon Valley style startups they acquired in California. Company is very east-coast focused and styled.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt appears that management is happy with the results they have. They are just not good at keeping and motivating talented people on the west coast.

    Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid

Account Manager (Current Employee) South San Francisco, CA

ProsOnly as a stepping stone to another job. If you can do it, because many companies do not hire from CA.

CA also has some jobs that are entry level and would provide good insights into what CIO's are thinking.

ConsCA is a MAINFRAME software company who at different points tries to make themselves out to be branching out to distributed software. The fact is the company is hamstrung and needs to be separated.

The acquired companies tend to die on the vine at CA, but even then, CA has curtailed their acquisitions 2 years ago. Can you say milk the maintenance?.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind new technologies to promote.
