Loads of opportunity

Software Systems Specialist (Current Employee)
Montreal, QC (Canada)

I have been working at CAE full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLots of opportunity for experience, changing teams and projects.
Fun product as working on simulators is both technically challenging and fun to fly.
Travel is often available.

ConsIf you become really good at something you become THE go to person. Meaning, weekends, evenings, Travel for long periods. This seems to happen often.
Also many projects on low level priority items seem to be always redesigned meaning that much work that could be standardized isn't.
More and better documentation required

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the vision clear and strong.

CAE is fine to start your career. But trying to move up the ladder is difficult.

Software Systems Specialist (Current Employee)
Montreal, QC (Canada)

I have been working at CAE full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFlexible hours, overtime paid at time and half.

ConsUpper management is more focused on product than on employees. They will trip over a dollar to save a penny.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to employee ideas at saving costs, they know how things work. Also, do save money, have more of the sim built in Montreal rather than in the field, hour per hour, it costs less!

CAE is in the process of a crash landing

Project Manager (Current Employee)
Montreal, QC (Canada)

I have been working at CAE full-time for more than 10 years

ProsFriendly coworkers, on-site cafeteria, flexible hours (for non-unionized employees), health club subsidies.

ConsNo training, heavy in processes and red tape, internal competition between divisions hilighted by a terrible management bonus plan that paid out almost nothing the second year it was forced onto employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Lots of smart and highly qualified people

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Ottawa, ON (Canada)

I have been working at CAE full-time

Prosmodelling and simulation is a very interesting space, and brings together great professionals. Everyone submits timesheets so work-life balance is pretty good; you know where you spend your time, and when you have worked a full week.

ConsLimited career growth, little to no training budget.
As a public company, the outlook and planning is short-sighted. Not much in the way of investing in R&D, innovation, strategic partnerships, etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your people. Smart, hard-working people seek professional growth and learning opportunities... all the time.

Great company for internships, they let you get really involved

Software Systems Specialist (Former Employee)
Montreal, QC (Canada)

I worked at CAE as an intern for more than 3 years

ProsI had a great supervisor and awesome coworkers. We had weekly happening helping in team bounding. The tasks are given according to your interest of being involved in the team project. You can get to work on Civil, Commercial and Military projects, which may be considered secret. The work hours are flexible.

ConsReally close to the YUL airport, kind of noisy depending where is your work place.
Must resolve problems as management wants, sometimes not much freedom for creativity.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet people use their creativity to find better ways at solving problems.
