I have been working at CAE

    Pros

International travel. Had the chance to travel to europe on several occasions. Awesome product. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Management by panic. Presure to deliver even if product is not ready. Avoid company if you can't manage stress and presure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Requires a change in management mentality. Employes deserve respect and not feel like tools. You can't manage software like a production chain

I have been working at CAE

    Pros

Flexible schedule, frendly people, ability to work from home

    Cons

Upper management is lost in the vacuum of what seems to be a separate universe inaccessible to regular employees. In quite a few instances, I've seen good leadership be demoted or let go for no obvious reason. Frequent reorganizations, changes in objectives, the never ending ERP system implementation, just to name a few...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If an employee is only a numbered resource... then how can you even talk about engagement?

I have been working at CAE full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Although its 40 hours per week, overtime is paid but no bonus. The company "encourages" mobility within the company. Insurance can be refused, to compensate they pay you the insurance cost as CAE Dollars. Christmas period is closed for a week and a half.

    Cons

Higher management acts on their own personal benefits. 40 hours per week schedule. Survey results on employee's commitment are very very low, but nothing is done to change the situation. Most colleagues are looking elsewhere to change job and are unhappy.

I have been working at CAE as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible hours.
    Friendly people.
    Close to Montreal.

    Cons

Major cut in the last years, low internship salaries, lack of vision. Internal survey of employee satisfaction showed low score. Little to no benefits for interns.

I have been working at CAE full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Interesting products, good colleagues and possibilities for internation travel.

    Cons

Constant reorganizations, too many employees focused on initiatives leaving too few on projects. Management repeats mistakes regarding schedules and contract negotiations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a more long-term view of the business instead of concentrating only on the next quarterly results.

Current Employee - "Technical Staff" in Montreal, QC (Canada)

I have been working at CAE full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Any longer term employee will speak of the "golden age" of CAE and how great it was to work here. Well I never got to experience that, and apparently neither did anyone else who was hired in the last 5 years. The salary is competitive only to maintain the industry average. They offer flexible schedules. They seem to potentially be hinting at the possibility of maybe acknowledging that the current state of employee morale cannot get any lower and will be having meetings to discuss the implementation of workshops to develop frameworks for processes to plan the improvement of said state. There haven't been too many layoffs in my group.

    Cons

I can't pretend that the current state of affairs is not a complete mess. They will dangle carrots in the form of "technical career tracks" and "mission statements", "processes", and more buzzwords than you can possibly imagine. There dire career progression situation and lack of hiring has created such an intense atmosphere of competition that you can expect a stern talking to if you blow your nose the wrong way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I can't put all the blame on management. A lot has to do with the current working climate in Quebec. I've seen many instances where an individual will leap at the first chance to step off this sinking ship only to get a harsh lesson in "the grass is always greener". I do hope they turn it around, but until then, this has become a "40 and out" place with absolutely no care for work.

    Pros

Flex time. Interesting product. Travel opportunities. Brilliant colleagues.

    Cons

Too many Key Performance Indexes. Management has no long term vision. Only wants the stock to look good. Doesn't even care about customers, let alone employees. Keep firing people and replaying them with "processes".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look in the mirror.
