58% of the CEO
I worked at CAE as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – The company is a world leader in flight simulation, and the technology is incredible, global, and literally jet set. If you have any interest in aviation and technology, you'll love this place. If you're a wannabe pilot, you'll really love this place.
Cons – I was one of the wave of 700 people layed off in bulk back in 2009. This was immediately following their hiring drive. Finished a few projects, and we all soon got our notices. Yes the economic climate was bad, but they hired so many only to let them go so soon, and then the CEO and upper management received multimillion dollar bonuses...how twisted.
Also, the pro-French-only culture if you work in Montreal gets annoying.
Advice to Senior Management – Upper management only: make shareholders happy but not at the expense of employees who are treated like disposable tools. As the industry leader, you should set the highest standards and make your people love your company.

I worked at CAE for more than 10 years
Pros – Amazing technology
Global company with opportunities for travel
Good middle managers who care for the company and their employees
Cons – Bottom line the only focus
Short term vision quarter to quarter all driven by the markets
Advice to Senior Management – Treat employees like valuable assets not just a means to an end and then tossed aside. The compensation gap between Senior management and regular staff is way out of line.

Pros – Interesting technology
Possibility to travel the world
World leader in flight simulation and training
Very talented people and good work environment
Cons – Constant rounds of layoffs disrupt work flow and reducing core competency.
Need more focus on long term strategy, such as investment in resources.
Major re-organizations occurring too frequently and affecting the company’s ability to delivery quality products on time.
Advice to Senior Management – Focus on long term strategy instead of short term.

I worked at CAE
Pros – was a great ambiance, open, friendly work environment up until the last 5-8 years. Given lots of responsibility early in career. Plenty of opportunity for travel, sometimes at cost of personal life.
Cons – Gone down hill. Nothing but cost cutting, and reorganizing. Atmosphere is certainly not the same as it use to be when it was one of the top 100 companies to work for in Canada. Some shift work which is not ideal, especially when travel is also involved.

I have been working at CAE full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – If you are a big fan of airplanes, you will enjoy working there. I had the chance of working on various flight simulators and it is always a thrill to fly them to test your simulation software. You also get the opportunity to travel to customers' sites to complete the installation. There are various engineering departments, so, if you get bored, you can do a lateral transfer and work on something completely different.
Cons – As with most public companies lately, we work a bit understaffed and with the pressure to deliver. We have to learn a lot of technology mostly by ourselves but, I think it is the case for all software related jobs. It can take a while to adopt new software technologies at CAE.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to the rank and file employees.
