I have been working at CAE full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great industry. I work in the human patient simulation division, and the products we produce are great. Our company was bought by CAE two years ago and our focus has changed, which makes the mission a little less clear, but the company started with the idea of saving lives. How can you beat that?

    Cons

Management is unreal. There are quarterly layoffs, and upper management always has a new plan. The President announced in January at a Sales meeting, "there will be no layoffs, but I may fire someone before the end of the week." This was his idea of humor. Vacation and expense policies have changed retroactively. Salaries are low, but hours are long.

I worked at CAE full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Thought of company living up to compensation agreement

    Cons

Went back on everything promised in contract and forced long, dreadful work hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People should really be looked at as assets not a means to your end

I have been working at CAE

    Pros

    Friendly work environment
Good benefits - 401K w/ matching, health, dental, vision, life insurance, temp disability, etc...
    Hours are flexible
Dress code is relaxed - jeans, polo, and sneakers

    Cons

    Pay-scale is lower than average
Management is unable to balance project workflow - lead to recent layoffs
Product is old and needs revamping - functionality is good but could be made to be better if they would walk away from VB6.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Manage the budget better

    I worked at CAE

    Pros

Its a job in a poor economy. The coworkers were truly a blast. Good workers poor managers and poor wage/

    Cons

hours, pay, management were all a joke. They provide no feedback, or training. They take advantage of employees and the poor economy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees better. Split the shifts. Provide feedback. Allow employees their legal breaks. Work with employees to become better.

I have been working at CAE full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - The new Hungarian office is very beautiful. It was developed according to the wish of the employees
    - Some of the colleagues are exceptionally good at their profession
    - Interesting (in the good sense) events and education possibilities like English Fridays, party every Friday nights, etc.
    - Very friendly local management
    - The local management is open for the new ideas
    - Permanent foreign colleagues in the Hungarian office
    - Interesting work (Civil and Military airplanes/simulations)
    - "Google like things": Inspiration rooms, library, basketball, csocso, etc.
    - Flexible working hours
    - Competitive salary
    - It grows fast with a lot of promotional opportunity
    - A lot of opportunity for traveling worldwide (Canada, Germany, UK, Dubai, Australia etc)

    Cons

    - Most of the employees are young, there are no developers with ~30 years experience: missing accumulated experience in software engineering (you can count it as a Pros too)
    - The management is open and friendly, but not experienced. They learn much but their are overloaded (I think it is just a temporary issue)
    - Not too much girl thus/and some very strange and inappropriate/insulting jokes
    - The mother company cannot see the Pros and sometimes makes the positive change harder than necessary

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Try to lower your load, e.g. build an appropriate middle/lower management layer
    - Think in teams, not persons
    - Seriously consider to take something against the "strange and inappropriate/insulting jokes". It comes from the past and some of the employees are following it just by habit. It can hurt feelings and in extreme cases it can hurt the company too.
    - Keep it up! :)

Current Employee - Technical Staff in Montreal, QC (Canada)

I have been working at CAE full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance with flex time, "California Fridays" (half days on Friday), and one week extra vacation for Christmas. Stock plan is good, insurance plan is comparable to other companies. Opportunities to travel with paid overtime and great opportunities to work directly with the simulators, which are fun.

    Cons

Management is getting more and more disconnected. They don't want to hire, they don't understand the day-to-day concerns of the people at the bottom of the pyramid. Some promotions make no sense. The best people often leave for greener pastures.
Every year we hear publicly how great the company is doing, but internally we're always broke. What gives?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just stop with all the evaluations, the technical track, the initiatives and all the time wasting processes that yield NOTHING in the long run but frustration and demoralization of the employees. Keep things simple, make teams smaller not larger.
