I have been working at CAE

    Pros

    Friendly work environment
Good benefits - 401K w/ matching, health, dental, vision, life insurance, temp disability, etc...
    Hours are flexible
Dress code is relaxed - jeans, polo, and sneakers

    Cons

    Pay-scale is lower than average
Management is unable to balance project workflow - lead to recent layoffs
Product is old and needs revamping - functionality is good but could be made to be better if they would walk away from VB6.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Manage the budget better

    I worked at CAE

    Pros

Its a job in a poor economy. The coworkers were truly a blast. Good workers poor managers and poor wage/

    Cons

hours, pay, management were all a joke. They provide no feedback, or training. They take advantage of employees and the poor economy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees better. Split the shifts. Provide feedback. Allow employees their legal breaks. Work with employees to become better.

I have been working at CAE

    Pros

    Fair salary
    Good benefits
Amazing products with ethical value (Healthcare)

    Cons

We lost our group leader months ago and the position is not covered. So it became a question of character and or convincing attitude to become a "chief"
There is a over management. I spent more time arguing about what to do, filling forms telling how I use my time than really working.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For software personnel training is considered recognition. I personally got almost none.
Focus in spending less right now and not improving quality: "if it works don't touch it" is the motto. If it needs changes, eventually add a layer on top.

I worked at CAE full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - A good chance to work on a network of interacting systems
    - A good chance to work with other system engineers and teamwork
    - Working on problems of different nature which will enable you to learn and not to be bored
    - A good chance to travel (but will be working huge hours of overtime)
    - Flexible schedule
    - It's a quite stable job

    Cons

    - There is no proper plan in place and this translates into lots of priorities change sometimes even on a daily basis.
    - The proper organizational order is not practiced, so anyone with a task on hand may show up at your desk demanding to have his task done first.
    - There is a high level of stress that translates itself into colleagues passing the tasks around without doing their part first, making the work inefficient and good works not recognized.
    - Overtime/ night shifts / weekend work happen quite often and often without much advance notice.
    - It's very possible that you learn from your colleague that you're about to go on a field trip in two days.( on a higher scale, some decisions are made which affect you, without consulting you)
    - While you'll learn about the systems, you won't advance much in learning new technologies as they evolve.
    - The lower level managers are not experienced and at times are not well orchestrated, demanding conflicting tasks or directions.
    - At times promotions/replacements are not in the best interest of the company.
    - You will be prone to micromanagement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - By planning the workload well enough in advance, and hiring some contractors if needed, the work can be balanced so it can be ensured that the deadlines are met. At times even though the deadlines are set and the team knows an avalanche is about to come, no measure is taken in time to ensure the team has the enough man power and expertise in place when things pick up. Then domino effect happens and with the stress level, the team works even less efficient than his normal.
    - Need to enhance the lower level managers. some of the them are either very stressed or disconnected from the expertise coming from the team, making their decisions not the best for the project.

I have been working at CAE

    Pros

International travel. Had the chance to travel to europe on several occasions. Awesome product. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Management by panic. Presure to deliver even if product is not ready. Avoid company if you can't manage stress and presure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Requires a change in management mentality. Employes deserve respect and not feel like tools. You can't manage software like a production chain

I have been working at CAE

    Pros

Flexible schedule, frendly people, ability to work from home

    Cons

Upper management is lost in the vacuum of what seems to be a separate universe inaccessible to regular employees. In quite a few instances, I've seen good leadership be demoted or let go for no obvious reason. Frequent reorganizations, changes in objectives, the never ending ERP system implementation, just to name a few...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If an employee is only a numbered resource... then how can you even talk about engagement?

I have been working at CAE full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Although its 40 hours per week, overtime is paid but no bonus. The company "encourages" mobility within the company. Insurance can be refused, to compensate they pay you the insurance cost as CAE Dollars. Christmas period is closed for a week and a half.

    Cons

Higher management acts on their own personal benefits. 40 hours per week schedule. Survey results on employee's commitment are very very low, but nothing is done to change the situation. Most colleagues are looking elsewhere to change job and are unhappy.
