I worked at CAL POLY part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Getting a job within Cal Poly was easy, and brought in some money to pay off those loans. The people who you work with are usually really nice students also.

    Cons

It was a bit difficult tot submit my time card. I had to print it out every month and bring it to my department's supervisor to have to her check over it. I thought this was unnecessary and a hassle to everyone.

    Advice to Management

Revamp the time card system and implement something to detect fraud if that's what you're so worried about.

    Pros

They are very accommodating of your schedule, and it allows you a great opportunity to develop your skills in a certain subject.

    Cons

If they professor that you are working for sucks, your job might suck. Work will also likely overlap a lot with school schedules.

I have been working at CAL POLY (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have been at this position for nearly seven years. I have a very flexible schedule, and work with intelligent, mature colleagues. My supervisor is supportive, and has worked hard to keep my position funded. Great location.

    Cons

Full time positions in my area are rare. Because I am part time I don't have benefits which is a problem. Other than that, the working conditions are good.

I worked at CAL POLY part-time

    Pros

    - The college supports flexible work schedules for students. - The work was actually interesting. - Very supportive supervisors that don't micromanage.

    Cons

    - A recent changes in management and professors made it hard to get a hold of coworkers sometimes. - Not a whole lot of direction at times. - Actually getting to campus for meetings and the like can be a nightmare.

    Pros

-Small community of staff members; you really get to know every person/ or know of them on campus -Great public university -The university is representative of "doing" and applying what is taught in the classrooms.

    Cons

-More need for professional development opportunities -Underpaid for the amount of work staff members do. -Depending on the department, there is little to no advancement is position/title

    Advice to Management

I would say to really look at why people become so discontent here. It is a lovely place with very nice people, but there is a culture of feeling undervalued.

    Pros

i made great friends through working at cal poly. They were friendly, welcoming, and hard working people. I also liked the flexibility they had with the schedules since most people were students.

    Cons

you get paid minimum wage mostly, so that part is not great. It is also really slow on most days so the bookstore can get pretty boring
