I have been working at CARIS (Canada) full-time

    Pros

    Great colleagues,
    Multi-national colleagues,
    Opportunity to Travel,
    Dedicated and helpful colleagues,
    Relatively flexible work hours
    Understanding and supportive Management

    Cons

    Conservative Company
Flat company structure. If you're looking to have nice titles, you won't get it here. You can ask for more responsibilities (but you have to be pro-active)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Financial remunerations will have to be competitive. Some sort of career development program would benefit employees wishing to better themselves and contribute to the company even more. Lots of great people here (including managers) but a process that would help people grow *with* the company would be awesome.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at CARIS (Canada) full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good learning experience if you want to learn about GIS software development, however prepare to learn about one small part and not be allowed to move on to new projects.

    Cons

Very cheap company, if this is your first employment offer keep looking, they are no doubt lowballing you. Little chance for career advancement, even less opportunity for personal career development. Employees left to stagnate on the same project for decades. Religous CEO brings beliefs into workplace.

I have been working at CARIS (Canada)

    Pros

The variety of work available keep the work interesting and enjoyable. Also, the kind of people that work there enjoy sharing their experiences to help you improve on what work you would be working on, but also because the company is a very international employer, you could be working with a large group of people from all difference places around the world. You can easily learn a new language, a new culture or just experience the different work ethics.
Senior Management, for the most part, are very understanding and will accomodate schedules and responsibilities if there is an emergency or a leave of absence is absolutely necessary. I have never had a problem with this. And employess in return enjoy working there. This joy for what they are doing is received by the clients and returned in the many compliments and opportunities that arise from the work they have done.

    Cons

The company is very stringent on the amount of money it is willing to expend. Salaries are slightly lower than what you might expect in this line of work. Also, there is a definite barrier in communication between project departments and many project heads tend to be a little bull-headed, so innovation and development progression tends to be sluggish.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up with what you're doing. Whatever it is, it's working. With the kinds of projects everyone is getting, if you could make profit sharing more noticeable or return to the employees some of the big profits that you are receiving, it would improve company morale even more and make the company a force to be dealt with.
