Pros
The company provides a lot of opportunities to help advance your career through training including providing time during work hours. Often its paid (reimbursed) or free through their association memberships.
Cons
Management is in general 'out to lunch' - Too many bureaucratic 'red tape' CYA requirements. It makes doing your daily tasks more work than it should be - no added value to anyone. These changes happen continuosly throughout the year and always negatively impact the workload of their employees. Staffing standards never appear to take these added steps into account thus making a managable job less and less as time goes on.
Advice to Senior Management
Bottom line is important - make good on company speak and take care of all the non-management staff - they are the ones that are doing all of the work!
Pros
Resume builder
Good mix of young and old
Friendly employees/great sense of humor for the most part
Job security if you do you job well
Excellent netowrking opportunties
Faced- paced/Challenging (depending on which department, leasing brokerage is usually slow/laxed)
More gender and racially diverse than most firms
Working with the best in the business on the local level
Cons
No training whatsoever, you need to learn on your own
Difficult to move up or into other groups
Geting performance feedback is like pulling teeth
No exit interview
Low pay
Advice to Senior Management
Offer flex time and working remotely for support staff
Pros
Freedom of doing your work your way
Cons
Less respect is given to employees than they deserve .
Pros
Big network, a lot of very intelligent people in the senior ranks
Cons
pay is very uncompetitive among support personnel, and to some extent among brokers.
Advice to Senior Management
more focus on training and better compensation for support staff
Pros
Terrific people, interesting industry and generally fun place to work.
Cons
No apparent plan when it comes to systems and technology. Anyone with Director in their title can come up with some hair-brained scheme - usually involving implementation of sophisticated technology "in-house" with no budget but lots of fan fare centering on a completely unrealistic "roll-out" date.
Advice to Senior Management
We tell our clients not to try to do their own real estate. Why do we try to do our own tech?Determine which projects are worthwhile and reward some of our tech clients with contracts to implement them. It will be cheaper than you think, and much less costly than wasting everyone's time with systems that don't work.
Pros
Lot's of flexibility in the workplace for creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Supports and rewards performance through recognition awards and compensation. Provides many avenues for advancement.
Cons
Fast growth of company globally has caused some areas of the business to be self sufficient because corporate cannot expand services and support fast enough.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to invest in information technology so that the company can leverage it's knowledge across the globe and accelerate it's service capabilities for clients.
Pros
Top notch, highly ethical, certainly the best real estate platform in the world - easy to make presentations when you have the detail to back it up - no fluff required and all hands on deck when needed - knowledgeable management
Cons
A little stuffy and uppity at times but isn't that required of all Public companies
Advice to Senior Management
Don't forget the support required for staff dealing with egos this large!!
Pros
Large company who is the leader in their field
Cons
Managment needs to be turned over, HR doesn't listen to its employees concerns and needs new leadership as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employee base. Brown nosers and suck ups are the only people who progress in this company. Why?
Pros
The accounting group was young and talented. Lots of fun working here at the Newport Beach Office before the closed it down
Cons
The lack of pay and career growth. The benefits and the 401k were not the best compared to others in the indusrty.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide better benefits like 401 matching and salary increases. Take care of our employees better and provide job training to our employees.
Pros
Huge network of professionals in various commercial estate positions around the globe.
Cons
Brokerage culture, with poor information sharing, poor benefits from employees, and weak central management.
Advice to Senior Management
Discouraging hording of internal information and creating adversarial relationship between brokerage and other groups.
