    Pros

Pay is pretty much what you would expect. From my experience it seems you should expect to stay as the same title that you hired in as for a while.

    Cons

Advancement is possible, yet it does take a while to take place even when you're promised a higher position. Move around a lot

I have been working at CB&I

    Pros

Great people, stay busy, good benefits, raises every year or so

    Cons

Very political, large company - everyone's replaceable, limited opportunities to move up

    Pros

Large company, numerous divisions and locations

    Cons

Seemed not to gather information before making decisions

    Advice to Management

Educate yourself about all aspects of your business, especially the newly acquired ones. If not, surround yourself with people smarter than you.

    Pros

CB&I offers a very competitive salary and the majority of people were very nice, professional, and pleasant to work with.

    Cons

The Document Control Database was inadequate. There was not a database in place for tracking worker training qualifications nor for tracking procedures through the development/revision process. These types of professional & specific databases are essential for long term jobs. There was not a project specific Procedure Group and tasks are performed using procedures.

    Advice to Management

The planning for large long term jobs such as new construction needs input from experienced professionals. Apparently databases for tracking training qualifications and procedures was not considered or determined to be important.

    Pros

CBI pays well for the most part. If they didn't change the rules so often, it could rate a 4. If you are willing to relocate anywhere, anytime, you will be OK. Good camaraderie found at most sites. Corporate offices are more uptight.

    Cons

Ridiculous bureaucracy. Good ole boy network is too big. Rules on per diem, transfer and incentive pay change often always favoring the company at the expense of the employee. Temporary jobs are reclassified as permanent in some cases at great financial detriment to employees. 30 year old patched up DOS based green screen software (JD Edwards) is the primary financial tool.

    Advice to Management

    These guys don't take advice.

    Pros

There's plenty of work to do and when you are working all day the time goes by so fast. There's always something to do.

    Cons

The cons would be once the job is complete you get laid off and then your back to looking for more work.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be don't believe everything you are told "like rumers". Take the time to investigate and then make sure rumers are true .

    Pros

No blame games, no office politics, no favoritism and no drama. All employees are helpful, honest, very intelligent, competent, and hard-working. The company seems to simply not hire slackers. The management is very fair and values the development of the employees.

Every day new technical challenges come up, and CB&I offers the opportunity to take on those challenges and really excel.

    Cons

Some of the work can be repetitive or tedious on the day-to-day scheme.
