I have been working at CBS as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

You are giving reasonable work hours and are allowed a work/life balance. Management in the department were extremely helpful

    Cons

The internship wasn't paid, overwhelming for the first week of working.

I worked at CBS full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The people are wonderful, the facility (TV City, at least) is well maintained. You need to be experienced to work there as they offer very little in the way of training. They do offer health and welfare of a sort to even temporary personnel, but you never feel like you ccan paln for the future.

    Cons

Too many of the management has never worked anywhere else. The management treats technicians like dirt beneath their feet. If they could, the would eliminate technicians entirely.

I have been working at CBS full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fun coworkers, for the most part. Most are fairly patient and understanding when you're first starting out.
The opportunity to have your work on a local news station is incredible. Some fans are so loyal, they'll know you by name in a matter of months.
Honestly, it's a great job to start out with, right out of school.

    Cons

Move up quickly from part-time positions, but then stagnate just as fast.
Constant criticism (but that's television, really.)
Hard hours. Don't bother with a morning shift if you aren't into being awake all night and sleeping during the day.
Everyone will ignore you at some point, for whatever reason. Everyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership and team-building is highly lacking. If one person is falling behind in their job, and it's affecting yours, you can bring it up to the news director, but that doesn't mean they'll do anything about it.

    Pros

this looks great on your resume
lots of business lunches around town
    good networking
    decent compensation

    Cons

There's not a lot of long term goals. Focus tends to be on meeting quarterly quotas instead of building long term value. my advice is to get the experience and the network, and then move on!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A lot of great employees come to CBS and then leave a few years later. Try to retain your best players.

I have been working at CBS (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fabulous place to work, great people, strong commitment to running a successful business.

    Cons

Some employees treat the company as if they were offered a tenured position. With many long-time employees, motivation sometimes falls off.

I worked at CBS as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

I worked for CBS Eye Too. It's a "no frills" sort of gig. Your check will always be there on Fridays, the power will never go out and....that's about it.

    Cons

No real room for advancement. This is not the place to work if you want to grow - only somewhere to collect a paycheck.
