Advice to Senior Management
Think out of the box..
Pros
Health Benefits, 401k Matching, Biz Casual Dress Code, Some remaining fragments of the company's former glory. That would be about all.
Cons
The fact that the company has been unable to grow earnings at a better than minimal rate coupled with the executive desire for growth has driven a negative shift in the corporate culture. What was once a great place to work has now become a toxic environment that encourages predatory behavior across the line staff, management and senior executives.
Advice to Senior Management
People ( The Employees ) are the driving force to the success or failure of the organization. CCC is fortunate to enjoy a relative monopoly on the niche business but that lock is not permanent nor guaranteed.
Pros
You can wear blue jeans (some even wear cushy pajama-type pants if that's your thing!). They have a pretty good healthcare package. Quite a bit of vacation time. That's about it.

I thought I'd write a review because I saw a TV ad saying that CCC is hiring. I recently left CCC, so I asked around and heard that they "won" some insurance company's business and needed to fill more positions. CCC can hardly fill positions the way it is (constantly advertising, even in the worst economy in years), let alone having a new need for employees. The pay is awful. You are treated like just a number. Every second of your time is documented and will be used to judge your effectiveness. Not how satisfied your personal customers are, but what your computer says! They will store your every move and use it against you any time throughout the year. Pay is awful and going down, no more "perks" like company-paid parking Downtown. Too many managers. The regular employees are the ones doing all the work. Most people have no idea exactly what their "Team Lead" or manager actually does. "Technology" company, yet the computers were ancient and so was the software (literally 1980's). CCC as a whole frequently lays employees off, but very seldom in Sioux Falls because they work for so cheap and bust their humps actually making the company some money. The new topic as I was leaving was the yearly bonuses not going to amount to much because the CEO (Chicago headquarters, yep it's run by Chicago-style individuals!) lost a ton of money in bad decisions. Lots of middle-aged gossips will get to know everything in your personal life and share it with everyone they know there. Best decision was to leave CCC! I hope you think twice about changing companies!!!! I encourage other Sioux Falls employees to review as well!
Advice to Senior Management
Your employees talk about you at work and after-hours, maybe you should try to improve worker morale! There's a reason no one wants to work at CCC!!! Get over yourselves; your new cars, your new diets, etc.--try doing some work!
Pros
Pay is at or above average for IT positions.
Workout facility in office.
Good location downtown River North
Flexible hours for the most part.

-The new executive leadership for technology. This will be the downfall of the company.
- Holiday layoffs. As another person posted, CCC is famous for before Christmas layoffs. 48 more employees were let go on 12/2/12. Several of these were high performing employees with 10-20 years of service. At the same time, CCC hired 60 software developers all of a certain offshore persuasion and outsourced one dept to an offshore company.
- Too many managers and directors in IT that don't take active roles in their direct reports dat to day duties, seek their opinion or provide a growth path within the company.
- It's December and we have not had our 2012 objectives finalized yet. Should make for an interesting end of year review.
- Heavy favortism. The management team that has been built are old cronies from a past company not to be named. Business decisions seem to be heavily favored to this company.
- In all this turmoil, not one word from our CEO. Very disappointing as I once looked up to this gentleman as a visionary.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to respect your employees. We understand its a business for profit, but let's have some common decency for our fellow workers.
Reward performance.
For the CEO. Take a close look at mid and upper management. Are they really representing the vision and direction for the company you started out? Take a walk down the pods and aisles. Do you notice something missing? Pride, happiness, dedication to be a part of what was once a great culture. I know. I've been here and seen it, and now I am making my exit.

Small software company in a stable industry (auto insurance isn't going anywhere fast)

Company doesn't invest in internal tools and training
Old fashioned/Manual concepts still in place
Not enough automation for a technology company
Not enough skilled managers- have not been trained or provided with proper skills
Company is wasting money on building products that aren't selling
Morale is in the tank since layoffs have been going on consistently over the last few years
Advice to Senior Management
Take your own advice. Listen to your employees and act on what they have to say.
There have been major issues in place at your company and your people can help you fix them.
I believe that you touted this at one of your recent conferences with your clients
You need to make people want to work hard for you again and brow beating them is not the way to do it.
There are many skilled people at your company and many who are not. You need to have your new management team assess these skills prior to making random cuts. The morale there is extremely low and you need to change that if you want to have a successful company again. Remember.....you used to be an industry leader. What got you there?

I think middle management has their favorite worker bees
You are at a disadvantage if someone on your team has more of your project manager's ear than you do
Don't like calibration exercises - everyone in management discusses you; forms the same opinion of you
Pays fairly well, so you may end up staying longer than you should
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more training $ - don't just make the employees learn on their own.
Pros
Excellent co-workers. Fair benefit and compensation package. Good networking opportunities. Great location in one of the most beautiful buildings in Chicago.
Cons
A psychotic management team that has "cleaned house" just before the holidays almost every year they've been in business. The bonus structure is heavily weighted against any but the "elite performers" making the full amount available. Creativity is stifled and the good of the customer is not the real goal.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to choose a course, communicate it to your employees, solicit ideas and information from those employees, stop making gods of the sales force and try to understand that support services are generally more important than sales in creating meaningful relationships and long term impressions that actually impact the bottom line.

above average pay for comparable title and position
casual dress code, managed economic downturn very well, encourage work life balance, minority friendly

no opportunities for professional growth, lots of deadwood will hinder any advancement opportunities; to few workers and too many line managers- every worker will have 3 different managers who do nothing and add no value. my manager did nothing except go to meeting and come back with stuff that I needed to do- not sure why I couldn't do the same!!! lots of cliques who run small fiefdoms with no accountability- you could get by with little or no work if you belong to those charmed circles;

Some sharp minds in there...but not fully utilized, and some organizations are not structured properly.
Cons
It seems that bad managers get praised and advanced due to the "buddy system".
The use of archaic email and CRM systems.
Advice to Senior Management
If there have been instances and several accounts where complaints were given to HR regarding poor managers lacking management skills by delivering rude cut throat remarks or lack the dynamics to manage a group effectively, why protect these power hungry managers? Does the executive "buddy system" out-weigh the cry for help from subordinates? If 3 or more complaints have been made against a supervisor...it's time to let them go.
Pros
Pay good, benefits good, office space is ok, some other good people to work with
Cons
Terrible management and way to many of them, all directors and no one to do the actual work. You need to be included in the "in" crowd to stay afloat in this company.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a clue, you don't need more VP's or Director's. Hire people who actually do the work and appreciate them. You are cultivating a terrible work environment.
