I worked at CCSD full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best reason to work for CCSD is the promotion of technology in the workforce.

    Cons

The downside of working for CCSD was the lack of diversity in the workforce.

    Advice to Management

Management should consider rehiring former educators that want to return to the workforce.

I worked at CCSD full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I had the privilege to work at Charleston County School of the Arts in North Charleston.

    Cons

There are no cons from my point of view. This was the best school I had ever worked at and that made it the best place to finish my teaching profession.

    Advice to Management

Always continue to improve honest communications with students and parents.

    Pros

Work without boss peeking over your shoulders every minute.

    Cons

Work site and location are located in a very isolated area. Meaning you've got to travel 30+ minutes for groceries.

  6. This company is a good starting job. You start with a high pay rate compared to other first jobs and the work is fun.

    Cons

During summers sometimes they combine with other schools = new children

    Pros

Great retirement plan; probably best in country. Opportunities for professional growth. Dynamic workforce! Better than average community support. The tax environment and current housing market make the compensation level more than adequate.

    Cons

Inconsistent political state political environment makes for stressful times; threats to cut budget means possible lay-offs and threatens the quality of the work environment.

    Advice to Management

Reduce middle management, they are barriers to the core service providers-the teachers. Improve communication with teachers; they know best as to what is happening in the schools, and they know what they need to succeed.

  11. Helpful (1)

Positive overall, however, it's all in who you know.

    Pros

Great benefits with state retirement. Large district with many employees yet not too large for networking. Affords employees many professional development opportunities. Competitive salary.

    Cons

In order for advancement, it's all in who you know. It seems that posted jobs are usually already "promised" to someone else ahead of time, making interviewing a waste of one's time. I have worked for the last 3-4 years without any raise in salary and have had a $4,000/yr. decrease in salary due to furloughs.

    Advice to Management

Be open and honest to your employees. You move people around to different positions or schools without any explanation as to why. Hiring procedures need to be streamlined - extremely slow in initiating interviews and then fill positions with qualified leaders in "interim" positions for months! Let interviewees know the end result - people who take the time to interview for positions would like to know whether or not they got the job.
