    Pros

You get to help children. You sort of get summers off. (But you prepare your classroom and lesson plans a lot during the summer.) If you're in a title-I school, they might lay off teachers, but at least you'll get a smartboard.

    Cons

At my school, there was zero support from administration. I was constantly on my own, and when I asked for help, I was ignored. The hours are never 7-3. Try 6:30-5:30 on a good day. There are no lunch breaks, and you stand guard at recess.

    Advice to Management

Hire others to do lunch duty and/or recess duty. It would help morale not to stay after work 3-4 extra hours a day to do lesson plans, prepare materials, etc. Also, don't be afraid to back up the teachers because you are afraid of the parents.

    Pros

Loved teaching and meeting students of multicultural backgrounds.

    Cons

Certain managers are in place here that do not support new teachers and show favoritism. Reverse discrimination is active. They know how to speak kindly when others are present, but get away with providing unequal information amongst their subordinates. HR and senior management did listen when forced to, but took absolutely no action.

    Advice to Management

Make sure everyone knows what is happening. Monitor the managers to see if they are treating subordinates fairly. If an employee complains, take it seriously. and institute changes. Make sure new employees know how to achieve higher certifications (the steps and paths), and know about meetings to do so.
